On Thursday, August 1st, the Emerging Leaders class enjoyed a fun, food-filled visit to Feeding Westchester. ELP alums, Christopher McGregor, Manager of Senior & Children’s Programs, and Martine Campoli, Director of Individual Giving, along with current 2024 ELPer Brittany Frieder, Senior Manager of Donor Relations, kicked off the session with an overview of Feeding Westchester’s mission, programs, and community partners in the fight against hunger in Westchester County. Next, Tami Wilson, Chief Operating Officer, led an interactive presentation on the types of continuous improvement methodologies used to enhance productivity and efficiency, which included a lively paper airplane competition! Although part of Feeding Westchester’s offices are under construction, the class took a tour of their newly expanded warehouse space, which included pop quizzes on the facts learned during the session. Thank you to ELPer Cora Rose, Manager of Agency Logistics, who joined Brittany in leading the tour. After the tour, the class enjoyed a delicious plum cucumber salad prepared and presented by Monique Marshall MS, RDN, CD-N, Nutrition Resource Manager, and Alyssa Advincula, Community Nutrition Educator. ELPers even went home with the recipe! Thank you Feeding Westchester for being amazing hosts and shout out to our ELP Sponsor M&T Bank. #ELP2024 #emergingleaders #nonprofits #professionaldevelopment #westchester

Test your knowledge of nonprofit operations! TRUE OR FALSE? 👇 1️⃣ Historically, funders have not supported programs that have low administration and overhead (core operating) rates. 2️⃣ Nonprofit A&O/Core Operating costs in grant proposals almost always reflect the actual, verifiable expense of delivering services. 3️⃣ Credible state-wide surveys show that nearly 20% of New York nonprofits take out lines of credit/loans to fund programs because of delayed government contracts or grants. 4️⃣ It is easy for most nonprofits of all sizes to get a NICRA (Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement) for direct federal funding. Swipe to find the answers! Watch our webinar “A New Way to Talk About Nonprofit Overhead” to learn more about how low-overhead caps limit nonprofits' growth and sustainability: https://lnkd.in/dBFDunng Stay connected and join the conversation!
