Thank you WHYY for your coverage of the Supreme Court ruling on sleeping outdoors. Check out their coverage here: In Norristown, officials have sought similar measures to clear encampments. In the past, some municipal officials have expressed a desire to bus unhoused people onto the Villanova University campus. Sunanda Charles, executive director of the Norristown Hospitality Center, said her “heart sank” when she heard the Supreme Court ruling. “The volume of the problem that we see every day, it’s so huge and now to add to that another complication, another barrier for people to get housed,” Charles said. Basic needs and social services to empower those experiencing homelessness and poverty
About us
The Norristown Hospitality Center is a resource center for the low income, homeless, and needy of the Norristown area. We are the only food pantry in the area that provides breakfast 6 days a week. We also provide mailboxes which enables clients to receive mail at a safe and reliable address. We also offer other amenities such as a shower with toiletries and fresh towels each day, and a public phone and free copy/fax services. Licensed social workers and therapists assist by directing our clients to the appropriate resources and provide referrals. We believe in filling both the stomach and the spirit, and provide encouragement through an optional daily devotion as well. We are always looking for volunteers and donations. Visit our website, follow us on Facebook, and stop by the center for breakfast, devotion, and tour of our facility !

Statement from the Norristown Hospitality Center Regarding the Johnson vs. Grants Pass Supreme Court Ruling The Norristown Hospitality Center is deeply saddened by the recent Supreme Court decision in Johnson vs. Grants Pass. This ruling effectively criminalizes homelessness, further marginalizing a vulnerable population already struggling to survive. At the Norristown Hospitality Center, we see the devastating impact of homelessness every day. People experiencing homelessness face a multitude of challenges, including lack of access to shelter, food, and healthcare. The Johnson vs. Grants Pass decision only exacerbates these problems by making it even more difficult for people to find safe places to sleep. We urge our community leaders and residents of Norristown to stand with us in opposing this decision. We need to work together to create solutions that address the root causes of homelessness, such as lack of affordable housing, mental health care, and addiction treatment services, not criminalize those who are struggling. Together, let us work to build a more just and compassionate community for all. Sincerely, The Norristown Hospitality Center #EndHomelessness #HousingForAll #HumanRights #DignityNotCriminalization
