First up—Port Jackson shark lays auger-shaped egg cases. These sharks deposit their egg cases in very shallow water, often less than 5m deep. Female #PortJacksonSharks have been documented holding their egg cases in their mouths and rotating their bodies to literally screw the eggs into cracks in the reef. #31DaysOfSharks #SAFEsharks

Like all sea turtle species, loggerheads face many threats that impact their numbers. Coastal development has reduced the area where they can successfully nest, dogs and other animals often destroy their nests, and historically, people harvested their eggs for food. Fortunately, some of their primary nesting sites are in countries with strict legal protections, but even in those places, threats to their nesting beaches still persist. #SAFEChallenge
