About us
The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a top-ranked nonprofit hunger-relief organization operating a state-of-the-art volunteer and distribution center in Plano— the Perot Family Campus. Last year, the Food Bank worked hard in partnership with member agencies from our Feeding Network to provide access to almost 77 million nutritious meals across a diverse 13-county service area— this means more than 200,000 meals per day for hungry children, seniors and families. But the need for hunger relief in North Texas is complex and in order to meet the need the NTFB is working to increase our food distribution efforts. In 2016, Starbucks launched a national effort to provide nourishing, ready-to-eat meals to people facing hunger through Starbucks FoodShare program. This program and model with Sharing Life Community Outreach, Inc. partner Grand Prairie United Charities empowers our feeding partners to better serve neighbors in need. Instead of focusing on coordinating pickups themselves, time can be spent on receiving product and redistributing it out into the community. This means our partners to be more sustainable, and can divert valuable dollars from capital expenses to newer, more efficient equipment like freezers and refrigeration units! The North Texas Food Bank is elated to have distributed 93,873 meals through the Starbucks FoodShare program!

Metrocrest Services is one of the around 500 organizations that are part of NTFB’s Agency Network. They help ensure neighbors have access to the nutritious food they need in the communities where they work and live. Volunteers and staff work to build relationships with neighbors who access the pantry or Metrocrest’s rental/utility assistance program so that they can connect them with other on-site services that might benefit them—everything from financial literacy courses to workforce coaching to a computer lab where neighbors can build a resume or complete an online job interview. The new facility also has an office for NTFB, which offers assistance to neighbors applying for SNAP, and Metrocare, which provides mental health care. The second annual North Texas Food Bank Kids Camp helped children understand and fight food insecurity in their community. And while participating students say the Monday day camp was packed with fun, they also understood all of the activity was for a purpose: learning about hunger. “I think it’s great that they do this and that they help people,” says Molly, a camper who has attended two years in a row.
