It's the end of the #ASUGVSsummit.
🤝 I had the chance to meet wonderful thinkers, educators, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow, all sharing the same belief in education as the sole bearer of the values we wish to see realized. Education shapes the future with the aid of technology. Who better embodies this than Jason Palmer? He is the face of modernity in politics.
🔥 Reid Hoffman emphasized what I constantly repeat: the fundamental role of philosophy, literature, and the arts—not just the sciences and mathematics. Together, these subjects develop critical thinking, analytical judgment, problem-solving abilities, and creativity. How can we build without thought? Refer to my article in Philosophie Daily on this topic.
🔥 Michael T. Moe was also incredible. We must base our judgments on data, and clarity can only come if we are not blinded. Society changes rapidly, and we must understand these changes to solve problems efficiently and guide technology toward real progress. Among the many data points he presented, screen time has increased from 13 hours a week to 13 hours a day, 39% of Gen Z listens to podcasts, there has been an explosion in the gaming industry, and the average American attention span has dropped from 150 seconds twenty years ago to just 8 seconds today—shorter than that of a goldfish. This impacts education and how teachers must instruct. Furthermore, and very encouragingly, the development of entrepreneurship in schools with 72% of high school students and 65% of college students aspiring to become entrepreneurs or start-up employees is something I've contributed to for over 15 years as an educator. Since 2010, the amount invested in education technology has skyrocketed, reaching a $20.8 billion valuation by 2021, a growth underpinned by a global spread of venture capital investment beyond the United States. Kahoot and Gamekit have changed the way teach. Soon will come what I have also worked on: the development of immersive and interactive virtual spaces, assistants for students and teachers with avatars or disembodied—I have written several articles on this—capable of individualizing education and realizing the humanist dream.
🚀 When one is in education and entrepreneurship, each must take responsibility for defining their roles in the world, not through external standards but through sincere efforts to contribute positively to humanity. #Wearesmartsandhearts. More than ever, we need to believe in our values and embody them.
