Last week, NRECA hosted a volunteer event for Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) as part of our Concern for Community Week fundraising event. Sixty-five staff members joined over the 2.5-hour time block. Together we were able to pack 4,000 lbs. of apples 🍏 . That's 11,250 apples 🍎 . AFAC serves 3,800 families weekly, with each family receiving a pound of apples, we helped to provide nourishment to the community for more than a week! We donated $2,900 to AFAC and contributed $1,486 in in-kind giving in the form of man-hours, which brings our event total to $4,386. 🙏 A huge thank you to the volunteers who showed up ready to work! Your commitment to our community is inspiring. Let’s continue to support our communities and make a positive impact together! 🌍❤️ #afacfeeds #volunteers4afac #poweringtomorrow

Thank you, Congressman Newhouse, for visiting Benton REA to discuss the Retreat wildfire that is impacting their service area. Federal funding, wildfire mitigation and utility liability are important issues and we appreciate your support.
Congressman Newhouse visited Benton REA to receive an update on the Retreat wildfire that is currently impacting our service territory. We spoke about the need to secure federal funding to rebuild and improve our system quickly after a wildfire. We also spoke about our current wildfire mitigation practices and the need to reduce a utilities liability, especially when they are following industry best practices. We then toured a nearby substation to talk about how we deliver reliable electricity to our 12,000 members.

The EPA’s power plant rule will hurt the continued development of renewable resources in Golden Spread Electric Cooperative’s service area. By strictly limiting how much of the time new gas power plants can run, the rule ignores gas power plants’ important role in ensuring grid reliability and efficiency, especially as the use of solar and wind increase. Read more on how the rule will harm Golden Spread here: https://bit.ly/4cUUA2s
