Some topics of focus this legislative session include permits and fees, EPR, bottle bills, landfill capacity and PFAS. In this WasteRecycling magazine article, we highlight some of the state chapters’ recent activities: https://lnkd.in/gHgZS7ju

In life, most of us strive to be the best versions of ourselves, and for those of us in the #recycling and #waste industry, we often try to leave the world better than we found it by doing our part to make a difference. This desire to do good is seen through acts like philanthropy, planting trees, volunteering services, leading cleanups, reusing materials and, you guessed it, recycling. However, ensuring materials are recycled properly can be challenging as recycling is not one size fits all, and the concept can be skewed due to many factors. This week, National Waste & Recycling Association President and CEO Michael E. Hoffman visited WM's recycling facility in Cleveland as well as the company's headquarters in Houston. In Cleveland, Hoffman toured the facility and learned more about WM's recycling and education efforts in the state, and in Houston, he joined WM Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Devina Rankin for a lively discussion on the state of the #recycling and #waste industry, #safety, #sustainability, #innovation and the people who make our industry so special. Thank you once again to WM for hosting us!

This week, NWRA attended the 2024 Midwestern Legislative Conference in Columbus, Ohio. Our participation included hosting a dynamic breakfast table topic discussion titled "Charged Up About Batteries: Illinois Battery Stewardship Act,” which was hosted by Rep. Anna Moeller. Additionally, NWRA, in collaboration with Porter Wright, hosted a vibrant afterparty reception for the Council of State Governments Midwest attendees to promote our lithium-ion battery campaign, aimed at raising awareness and encouraging responsible battery disposal and recycling.

Great to be a part of this fantastic event honoring the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee members once again this year which I along with Marco Giamberardino are original cosponsors going back to its founding in 2012.
This week, NWRA sponsored the America on the Move and the Almost Heaven Bluegrass Roundup receptions held the afternoon of the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. In attendance were Jim Riley and Phillip Shaffer of NWRA, NWRA Wisconsin chapter Vice Chair Jeff Johnson of Going Garbage & Recycling Inc, George Brown of WM, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves and committee members, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito and West Virginia and Kentucky Delegations, respectively. NWRA enjoyed meeting with legislative and regulatory leadership and sharing valuable knowledge about the #recycling and #waste industry. We look forward to hosting a companion event at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.
