A Shell Technology's Marine Renewable Program (MRE) uniu forças com a UFRJ - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro para realizar um estudo de viabilidade sobre a Conversão de Energia Térmica Oceânica ao longo da costa do Brasil. O programa de Energias Renováveis Marítimas (MRE) da Shell Technology uniu forças com a UFRJ - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro para realizar um estudo de viabilidade sobre a Conversão de Energia Térmica Oceânica (OTECs) ao longo da costa do Brasil – uma região com condições ambientais ideais para o desenvolvimento de OTECs. A OTEC, uma tecnologia de geração de energia renovável, utiliza a água superficial aquecida pelo sol para vaporizar um fluido de trabalho de ponto de ebulição baixo em um trocador de calor. O vapor resultante alimenta uma turbina para gerar eletricidade antes de condensar de volta para a forma líquida usando água do oceano profundo – um ciclo sustentável e contínuo sem custos de combustível. Operando de forma independente, a OTEC não apenas fornece energia ininterrupta, mas também apresenta várias vantagens para a economia azul. O principal desafio da OTEC reside em desenvolver um sistema eficiente e econômico capaz de operar em profundidades consideráveis. Essa colaboração e estudo de viabilidade representam um avanço para compreender os gradientes térmicos na área da Amazônia Azul ao longo da costa do Brasil. O objetivo deste projeto é simular um design ideal para esses locais específicos, estimando as saídas de energia para várias combinações de entradas de água fria e quente e tamanhos de plataformas. Estamos muito entusiasmados com esta colaboração, que é um passo em direção ao desenvolvimento de uma OTEC viável para o Brasil.
