OCLC welcomes Essen Public Library (🇩🇪) as the most recent major public library to announce the move from its current library system to BIBLIOTHECAnext, the newest generation of the market-leading system used by some 4,000 libraries in German-speaking countries in Europe. "We were looking for a future-oriented library system that focuses on customer needs," said Anja Flicker, Director of Essen Public Library. "We have big plans and are looking forward to having OCLC as a strong partner." The new generation of BIBLIOTHECAnext — available in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland — focuses on digital services, a modern platform, and access to a wide range of partner systems. These include self-checkout systems via RFID, a library app, and e-government functions such as e-payment and online registration, as well as a solution for ticketing and event management. ⤵️ Click below to read more. #OCLCnews --- #OCLC #OCLCemea #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

Are we at a “Toy Story” moment with linked data? The first feature-length film created entirely with CGI was a game changer, setting a new standard for animated movies. In this #OCLCnext blog, Mary Sauer-Games, Vice President of Global Product Management at OCLC, provides a synopsis of our commitment to linked data — from the initial research groundwork to the long-term strategy — and shares why this could be a similar "Toy Story" moment for library metadata. "What’s important to remember is that moving to linked data is more than a technological upgrade," Mary writes. "It’s a fundamental shift towards a more discoverable, collaborative and dynamic knowledge ecosystem, where libraries are valued contributors. By participating in this change, libraries not only enhance their own operations but also contribute to the broader goal of creating a more informed and connected world." ⤵️ Click below to read more. --- #OCLC #LinkedData #Metadata #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove
