Now - August 15, One Simple Wish has a $15,000 Back To School Matching Gift Challenge!!! Heading back to school can be both an exciting and a tricky time for kids impacted by foster care and crisis. Some may be looking forward to seeing friends again while others may be a bit apprehensive about attending a new school. No matter what, we want to be sure that they all have what they need to feel as comfortable as possible as they focus on their education and learn new things. To do this, we want to get every single wish granted this week. PS: We know there are tons of school supply drives and they are wonderful. "This is the first time you got me what I really wanted, Santa!" This is just one of the many statements we overheard at our most recent Wish Party that stopped us in our tracks. Getting exactly what you wish for. This is something we shouldn't ever take for granted. And, for some, it hasn't ever happened before One Simple Wish came along. At our holiday Wish Parties, not only do kids and young adults get to enjoy yummy food and fun activities, but they also get to choose lots of goodies from our Wish Wonderland. Then, the best part? They get something they specifically wished for. Not just "you get what you get, and you don't get upset." Not, "This is what people donated, so be grateful." Nope. Instead, they see that something they have wished for is possible. It's in their hands. And everyone should get this feeling. I hope you'll all head over to onesimplewish.org to read through the wishes and choose to gift someone the joy of getting exactly what they want from Santa this year because everyone deserves to believe that wishes do come true.

Is it just a quick lunch at honeygrow or is it better described as a really nice break after a grueling 24 hours of server issues, donation slowdowns and vendor issues? The answer: perspective. When I read through the wishes at onesimplewish.org, I can sometimes see why someone might not immediately get the “why”. They may instead ask: Why is this a wish? Why does this matter? Why should I grant this? But the truth is that when I shift my perspective, even just a little, I realize quite quickly that this isn’t just a wish for a thing or service or opportunity- it’s a brave request for a bit of joy. And I think that matters so much - every single little bit of joy. Many of the kids and young adults who have wishes on our site have been through - or are still going through - incredibly difficult times of crisis. And sometimes the world sends them (and all of us) the message that the time to rest, to celebrate, to enjoy is not right now, but only if or when something is better, completed, earned. But at One Simple Wish - we say the time for joy is right now. And always. As the holidays approach and my stress becomes greater and my patience and attention tends to lessen, I try to offer myself these little reminders to seek out and relish in the joys - all of them. I hope you will too. And I hope you might consider giving that gift to someone else by granting a wish at onesimplewish.org. There will be over 15,000 wishes requested before the season is over and I am committed to making sure we are here to make every single one come true.

Each wish comes from a child or young adult impacted by foster care, trauma and crisis - all bravely sharing their needs and wants and hoping to be seen. If you can grant one, make a donation or simply share this post, that would be amazing!!! This is just the beginning of our busiest time of year! I know there’s lot of competition for your time, attention and financial support and I don’t have lots of nice, shiny videos or photos. But I hope you’ll take a moment to check out the site.
