Just wrapped two days of AI in Journalism workshops in Chicago, hosting 25 local news organizations from the Great Lakes region for tools training and leadership readiness and strategy development for AI. I have pragmatic optimism for how this technology can help boost the work that these vital organizations do for their communities — streamlining their workflows and time-consuming aspects of news production, so they can focus on impact, engagement and storytelling. We nerded out over tools and tested our deepfake spotting abilities, developed roadmaps for AI implementation and identified places in our workflows where AI can augment our work. But the most fun part of the week was seeing these folks connect with each other, build camaraderie across organizations and cities, and share ideas and resources. (Of course, those of you who know me well will be unsurprised that seeing the community connecting is the most rewarding part for me!) We owe a huge thanks to our friends at The Joyce Foundation for bringing us all together — and with an inspiring view to boot!

2025 Nieman-Berkman Klein Fellow @Harvard | Previously exec at Axios, Washington Post | Editorial leader, product strategist, and sustainable digital growth expert

Ever thought of taking your editorial talents solo? About to launch a Substack? YouTube channel? Trying to convert your publications' audience to be your portable audience that follows YOU, not your pub? What does it *really* take to make the leap? I'm hosting a great workshop with the superstars Caitlin Dewey, Liz Kelly Nelson and Blair Hickman on Saturday of the Online News Association conference this year. This is also a part of what I'm researching at Harvard University during my year at Nieman. ONA attendees can apply to join us via their conference registration (DM me, if you need help finding it). Promise it's the start of a very new and different direction for journalism...

ICFJ Knight Fellow ∙ Host of Newsroom Robots ∙ AI Journalism Lab Program Lead at City University of New York ∙ President - Canadian Association of Journalists National Capital Chapter

AI in journalism isn’t just hype—it’s driving real impact. But what does that actually look like in newsrooms, and how is it benefiting journalism? As an ICFJ Knight Fellow this year, I’ve been researching how AI is being used in newsrooms globally, and I’m excited to share some of the most innovative examples I’ve come across through a series of case studies that highlight how AI is being applied in practical, transformative ways. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with the fantastic team at the Online News AssociationMeghan Murphy and Karolle Rabarison — who are helping me share these important findings. We’ve curated 10 case studies that demonstrate how AI is making a real difference in newsrooms. Our first case study just launched this week, featuring Mediehuset iTromsø—a Norwegian newsroom that developed Djinn, a custom AI tool that helps journalists efficiently navigate, analyze, and summarize vast public municipal archives. From small local outlets to major international publications, we’re documenting the AI tools and strategies that are making a tangible difference. Sign up for the email series to follow along! Head of Global News@Healthline Media, RVO Health | Newsroom & People Leader | Executive Editor & Producer | Live/OTT Video, Digital, Social Media & Cross-platform Content Pioneer | Journalist | Consultant | AAJA ELP Alum

Join me at #ONA24! I'll be speaking at an important, one-of-a-kind leadership panel. In all seriousness, the idea for the panel originated from a shower thought of mine 💡 Excited and honored to partner with my fellow panelists, trailblazing women leaders of color, and digital media veterans in the journalism industry based in Atlanta: Niketa Patel, Kristal Dixon, Leslie Rivera & Cynthia DuBose. The panel is scheduled for Friday, September 20 at noon ET during the annual Online News Association conference in ATL. Join us for a candid conversation on what it's like to be the only woman of color with a seat at the table and how to turn the burden of being "the only one" into empowered and effective leadership. And for those who are just starting their career or not yet in leadership positions, this panel is also about how to advocate for yourself and others as wells as ideas, experiences, and products often dismissed or overlooked. Register here through Sept. 13 - https://lnkd.in/e6AZe6-k
