    Retail shrink is on the decline, but at what cost? 💰 Recent data indicates shoppers aren’t responding well to certain anti-theft measures. For example, 55% say they’ll shop somewhere else if the product they want is locked up. Which begs the question: are retailers’ efforts to harden in-store security causing shoppers to leave in frustration and shop elsewhere? CNN’s write-up offers some great insight into the enormously complex challenge of combatting retail theft. There’s no universal solution, but it’s clear the answer isn’t to simply lock everything behind glass. After all, one of the greatest things about the retail experience is the ability to go into a store and touch, interact with, and compare products. When you take that away, you remove the primary incentive for shoppers to come into the store in the first place. The million-dollar question retailers are having to answer is “how do I implement the right level of physical security to deter theft, while still giving my customers a compelling reason to shop in-store?” The answer isn’t simple – stores vary greatly in how theft-prone they are. Plus, the cost and complexity of products on display will dictate how accessible to shoppers the products should (or should not) be. We have the good fortune of helping many of the world’s most notable brands and retailers grapple with the issue of in-store security, so we have a seat at the table for some enlightening discussions on this topic. One trend in particular we’re seeing is that, as retailers harden security within their stores and products become less accessible to shoppers, they’re using technology to enrich the shopping experience to help customers learn about and connect with products in new ways. For example, using technology to augment the in-store experience can allow customers to: 👆 Interact with a touchscreen to learn more about a product, read reviews and watch informational videos 📲 Scan QR codes to send product information to their phones, or even use their phones to control content on the store’s display 🛒 Seamlessly transition customers to the retailer’s e-commerce platform to complete in-aisle purchases before they even leave the store If you’re wrestling with the issue of retail security and want a fresh perspective, we’d love to chat.     Our founder & CEO Paul Chapuis had the honor of keynoting the 2024 Business Booster Board at the beautiful Hotel del Coronado. The conference brought together entrepreneurs from around the world to learn from Paul's experience starting his company after immigrating to the US more than two decades ago. The notoriously pleasant Southern California weather was outshined only by the lively dialogue and enlightening conversations shared by all who attended. Special thanks to Nataliia Nesterenko for hosting this amazing get-together.     Our commitment to security runs deep. 🔐 Device security is a core strength of ours here at OnQ. We’ve mastered the art of securing products in-store to ensure shoppers can see, touch and interact with products at the shelf level. But security means so much more than deterring in-store theft. Our obsession with security extends beyond the store and into every aspect of how we do business.
