Please join us in welcoming our newest board member, Steve Fuhrman! Steve joined the Orchard Village Board in May. Steve is retired and former Chairman, CEO, and President of Central Steel & Wire Company. In addition to his 30+ year career in metals, Steve is passionate about conservation. He served as Managing Director of the trust for Mr. James R. Lowenstine. The trust managed a community-based 1,200-acre property in Wisconsin devoted to educating high school students about conservation. He has served as a member of the North American Steel Alliance, the Metals Service Center Institute, the American Women in Metals Industry, the National Fluid Power Association, and the Copper & Brass Service Center Association.

On June 24th, the Orchard Village community gathered in the Activity Center for the 2024 Annual Meeting. The evening kicked off with a special highlight of our incredible Special Olympic athletes who went to the State Olympiad. We also celebrated our outstanding Blossom Award winners. On May 15, our trade association IARF (Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities) held an Advocacy Day in Springfield, and it was an incredible rally to support raising wages for our DSPs and staff members! Program participants Brad, Emily, Denise, Therapeutic Recreation Manager Carly Bell, and Job Coach Victoria Saam represented Orchard Village. Thank you to our staff and amazing participants for speaking on behalf of Orchard Village. In the afternoon, they met with our supportive legislators State Senator Laura Fine, State Senator Ram Villivalam, and Representative Kevin Olickal. We're grateful for their hard work on an issue that affects services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
