To protect consumers and promote the highest professional standards in the practice of osteopathic medicine, the Osteopathic Medical Board of California licenses osteopathic physicians and surgeons. The board investigates consumer complaints and uses its enforcement power to ensure practitioners abide by the provisions of the state Business and Professions Code/Medical Practice Act. To maintain their license, practitioners must successfully complete rigorous, periodic continuing education requirements that meet the standards of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
