Last Thursday, the OUTbio crew joined the Allen Institute for views and brews at the crux of biotech in Seattle, perched right above Lake Union. The Allen Institute is committed to an inclusive culture that encourages, nurtures, and celebrates the diverse voices–so we’ll lift ours with kudos and a hearty *thank you* for the heartfelt welcome, site tour, and friends made along the way. Here’s a few of our favorites moments:

OUTbio Seattle takes on Vancouver! Shout-out to the Zyme&Proud team for a hugely successful first event and for leading the charge to get other Vancouver biotech companies to support the LGBTQ+ community, as well.

I was lucky to spend last week with biotech’s biggest baddie, my OUTbio bestie – Naomi Schwartz, PhD, MPH. Last Thursday, we made a quick trek up to Van for Zymeworks Inc.’s first inaugural Pride in Biotech event. Folks from across the lower mainland gathered to celebrate BC’s LGBTQ+ community in biotech – and let me tell you, the room really sizzled. Naomi and I were honored that the Zyme&Proud team welcomed us into the fold. But we weren’t the only ones making the jaunt northward. It was such a treat to spend time with our OUTbio Seattle buddies Ann-Michelle De Arton, MBA and Cheryl Beardslee, too. Our top takeaway as we headed back home? #Pride knows no borders. Congratulations to the whole Zyme&Proud team – Laura O'Connor, Polly Shao, Katina Mak, Diego Perez Escanda, Celine Chartrand, and others – for such a stellar event and for building a new home for LGBTQ+ family in biotech. The OUTbio Seattle team can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Two scenes from July that show what makes OUTbio Seattle tick: The team was proud to roll up our sleeves alongside Brandon Knox and the Lambert House LGBTQ+ Youth Community Center crew to build out their new office in North Capitol Hill. Lambert House is a safe place for LGBTQ+ youth ages 10-22. Their calendar is jam packed with fun activities, dinners, support groups, planning meetings, dances, and other events. It’s where LGBTQ+ youth make life better for each other. Our favorite part? The painting. We’re happy to report that no *sass violet* was spilled or splattered, scout’s honor. We also had a blast hosting our first-ever joint event with the HBA Pacific Region. Thanks to everybody who joined OUTbio Seattle and #HBASeattle at Rough & Tumble to build and strengthen our community over a few brews and a bit of biotech.
