Thanks to the team at to Owyhee Air Research LLC for sharing this colorized thermal orthomosaic of the Microwave Tower Fire from their TK-8 sensor. While comparatively small in size at ~1,300 acres as of July 31, the fire was initially a top priority in the region due to heavy flash fuels, strong winds and its close proximity to Hood River (Overwatch HQ) to the west and Mosier to the east. With active wildfires on both sides of our headquarters, many more across our state and historic seasons in the midst across the entire western US and Canada, we’re reminded why we do what we do at Overwatch Imaging. The need for efficient, large-area real-time intelligence, at-scale, has never been greater.

Video gimbals are highly capable tools for many ISR missions, but real-time mapping has not historically been one of them. We're proud to say, we're changing that story. Shown here is a Trakka Systems TC-300 gimbal over Portland, Oregon, from about 2,500' AGL at ~130 knots. When upgraded with Overwatch ASO software, FMV gimbals can capture and process large-area mapping products autonomously, in real-time, with multispectral, georeferenced photomosaics stitched together onboard the system and available for distribution seconds after completing a coverage area. Some test flights are more interesting than others. We had the opportunity to overfly the Whiskey Creek Fire in the central Columbia River Gorge this week while testing our ASO software integration with a Trakka Systems gimbal. Although we had to fly higher than optimal due to airspace restrictions, we collected compelling proof-of-concept data that demonstrates real-time, automated fire mapping capabilities for FMV gimbals.
