In late #June, members of Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s #Latino Employee Resource Group helped serve brunch to 300 people, sorted through six pallets of clothes and made more than 400 meal bags for children at #Fresno’s Poverello House. For more than a half-century, Poverello House has worked with local agencies to provide aid to those in need. The establishment, located about a mile away from PG&E’s call center, created the nation’s first no-cost, full-service restaurant that serves three made-to-order meals daily. Pacific Gas and Electric Company Corporation CEO Patti Poppe joined fellow energy #innovators in a discussion at Edison Electric Institute #EEI2024 on #wildfire mitigation and prevention. Ignitions caused by electrical equipment in PG&E's service area have been reduced by almost 70% since 2017 by the multiple layers of wildfire protection the company has added. But PG&E isn't stopping there. PG&E recently added downed conductor detection technology, which automatically deenergizes powerlines if they hit the ground. The technology prevented 17 occurrences of downed lines from causing ignitions last year. PG&E has also added 1,700 Gridscope sensor devices to its powerlines, which sense disturbances that have yet to make contact with a powerline. It plans to install 6,500 more in 2024 to further reduce wildfire risk.

Just two months after graduating from Pacific Gas and Electric Company's #PowerPathway Entry to Vegetation Management training program, Katie Mengali was able to apply the #safety training she received by tending to an injured motorcyclist. Mengali was driving back to her office in #SantaRosa when she saw a 56-year-old man lying in the middle of Rockpile Road. He had shattered his ankle and leg in multiple areas and would need three surgeries to repair the damage. Mengali’s assistance was appreciated by the California Highway Patrol officer who took the accident report. “I’m glad to hear PG&E has you prepared,” said the officer.
