When patients with Parkinson’s are admitted to the hospital, their medication regimen and timing is often altered—which can have big consequences on their symptoms. At ATMRD, our annual healthcare provider congress, Patricia Clark, CNP, of Cleveland Clinic, talked about a specialized program for hospitalized patients with Parkinson’s disease that aligns hospital protocols with their home medication regimens to improve their care. By helping to mirror their in-patient and at-home medication regimens, providers put the person with Parkinson’s care and unique needs at the center.

ATMRD, our annual healthcare provider congress, plays an essential role in helping improve communication between people with a diagnosis like Parkinson's and their specialist. NeurologyLive interviewed PMD Alliance Clinical Director Kelly Papesh, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC about an ATMRD session sharing community feedback from a survey earlier this year. "It's a really important pearl to remember," Kelly said, summarizing what providers can do better given the findings, "dedicate your time, give them your active listening, and that's how you're going to build that trust and rapport with your patients." For four days in late June, PMD Alliance gathered healthcare providers in movement disorders and other stakeholders along the Potomac River hugging the nation’s capital to learn in community—gaining insights, sharing findings, and centering those with a diagnosis and their voices at every opportunity. ATMRD learner Amanda Guggenmos, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC told us, “This is my first time attending this conference, but it is one that I will be attending annually.
