"Too many new teachers are thrown into the deep end without enough training. They're left to figure things out as they go, and their students pay the price." In Christopher Stewart's "Always Learning" Substack this week, he calls on those of us who aren't experts to care about wonky, complex details of education—like how much support teachers get. "In other professions, this would be unheard of. Doctors without extensive practice wouldn't be expected to perform surgery on their first day. Why do we expect teachers to be any different?" As the Partnership team kicks off two weeks of professional development—and grapples as we do every year with the best ways to support teachers all year long—we appreciate Citizen Stewart's curiosity about so much of what we obsess over too. We run Catholic schools in striving communities.
About us
We help children flourish fully by managing excellent, long-serving parochial schools in neighborhoods that need them the most. Our work began in New York, and we now proudly serve children in Cleveland, Ohio. Our network is guided by talented teachers and school leaders and supported by a central team of education, finance, and operational leaders. We believe that great schools are guided by faith and values, grounded in rigorous content, supported by quality professional development, and animated by a clear vision. We are proud to be part of the Catholic school renaissance—a nationwide effort to strengthen and rebuild urban Catholic schools as models of academic rigor and transformational change for the communities, students, and families they serve. For more on our model and outcomes, please visit our website.

Our hearts are full as we share the news that Kathleen Porter-Magee has accepted a position with the Leadership Roundtable. While her work as the Partnership Schools’ Superintendent will conclude this summer, she will continue as a Special Advisor to our network. We are grateful for her decade of dedicated work proving what our students and Catholic schools in the hearts of New York and Cleveland can accomplish, and we are excited for what is to come for Catholic organizations nationwide from her new efforts. https://lnkd.in/eAR6Awhz

In our latest Partnership Post, we share the strategic practices three Sacred Heart-Highbridge teachers are working, and insights into how their fearless academic dean, Kelly Quinn, and our network team help them amp up the impact they are having on their students. Last Spring we had the amazing opportunity to host Nick Parkinson Amy Haywood and Jordana Hunter from the Grattan Institute as they explored "multi-school organizations." We are really proud of how the report captures our approach to managing schools. We are continually balancing our management to provide enough support and structure to move schools forward while avoiding becoming overly bureaucratic, which we believe can be limiting (and very draining) for school leaders. There are a bunch of amazing schools featured in this report and our team is proud to be a part of it!
To give schools a better chance of improving, Australia should trial multi-school organisations. Multi-school organisations are strong ‘families’ of schools, bound through a united executive leadership that is accountable for students’ results. They enable teachers and principals to do their best work, and provide a blueprint for running exceptional schools. For our latest report, researchers Jordana Hunter, Amy Haywood, and Nick Parkinson conducted case studies of several international multi-school organisations. Now they are calling for the model to be trialled in Australia. Read the report: https://buff.ly/3PlZSdO #educationpolicy #education #auspol Photo courtesy of Star Academies.
