RWD, derived from routine patient care data such as electronic health records (EHRs), claims, and molecular testing, offers a broader and more diverse dataset than randomized controlled trials (RCTs), which are often limited by sample size, narrow inclusion criteria, and high costs. The integration of RWD with RCT data enhances insights into patient outcomes, treatment effectiveness, and disease progression, making the drug development process more cost-effective and informative. Researchers now use RWD throughout the drug development lifecycle, from identifying biomarkers to improving clinical trial design and supporting regulatory submissions. However, the unstructured nature of data in EHRs and other systems often limits RWD's potential. Advancements in digital pathology and AI-driven image analysis, such as PathAI’s AI-powered tools, are transforming pathology data into structured insights.
