2 weeks ago I flew to LA for Shannon Beveridge's first LIVE exes & o's show, powered by Patreon. I've truly never experienced a better fan-focused event in my life. I don't have enough positive adjectives in my vocabulary to accurately describe the work Hailey Newkirk and her team did. Patreon has a belief in the "true fan," and it's rare you see a brand take their mission and ethos SO seriously - and *actually* put their effort and resources towards it. I have worked with a lot of brand teams, and Patreon's team... wow. Shannon’s been online for well over a decade. And if you ask me why I work with Shannon, it’s because of who she is for and to her “true fans.” When Shannon started posting videos on tumblr, representation was unbelievably scarce, so many of her fans found safety, familiarity and found family in her content. And she found that in them. The bond and respect they have for each other is so powerful. Shannon's Patrons (and family and friends) got the experience of a lifetime - free tattoos, Rebecca Black (Yes, THE Rebecca Black) dj'ing around a pool with the craziest view I've seen in LA, a photo booth that SO accurately recreated Shannon's room / podcast set, drinks, food, a live show, and *time with Shannon.* I still can't believe it happened, but fortunately there is proof! Did you hear... there was a White House Creator Economy Conference? Of course, you did! One week ago today, along with 99 of my creator world peers, I had the honor of attending the first-ever White House Creator Economy Conference (excited scream!). The day was hosted by the Biden administration’s Office of Digital Strategy and aimed at exploring the rapidly evolving creator economy and its intersection with critical issues like pay transparency, policy, technology, mental health, and more. The day was packed with insights and meaningful discussions that underscored the growing influence of the creator economy. It was also amazing to see creators such as Gohar Khan Hannah Williams Jackie Aina, Lexi Hidalgo, Kate Mackie  and Joel Bervell all take to the stage. I couldn't be prouder to see them up there! For me, the conference signals a new era where creators are starting to truly be recognized as vital contributors to the economy and society at large; it's a stepping stone to something bigger. It was such an honor to participate, and even more so as someone who grew up in the UK. Our once-little-now-HUGE creator world is an ever-evolving landscape, and there’s a big role we can all play in shaping the future of the creator economy. Recently, I had the pleasure of helping organize Patreon's annual Kidfest event - our take on "bring your kid to work day." The highlight? Watching children reimagine the Patreon logo with their own artistic flair! Together with Kate Holland, I captured these colorful creations at our SF and NY offices and created a stop-motion video from the photos. It’s incredible to see creativity bloom at any age! I'm proud to be part of a company that encourages imagination in both our creators and our littlest visitors.
