About us
Mission Statement: The goal of Paws of Honor (POH) is to provide veterinary care and products at no charge* for retired military and law enforcement K9s across America that have served our country, locally or globally. We believe that retired K9s deserve accessible, high quality veterinary care in return for their commitment and sacrifice to our country. The monetary burden associated with veterinary care should not fall on the shoulders of the officer/handler/owner once the K9 has been decommissioned. *Based on charitable contributions

"Rex was a 16 year old German Shepherd, he was trained as a Patrol Explosive Detection Dog, who spent his career stationed at Fort Hood TX, served 2 deployments overseas. Rex was the best Bomb dog that was stationed at Fort Hood. We have worked countless hours of law enforcement together, protecting and saving lives. We had each other's backs all the way until the very end. Rex enjoyed his 6 years of retirement at home with his family and got spoiled rotten. Rex always loved toys, he has a huge bin of toys here at home which we couldn't even fit one more toy in it if we tried. He loved napping all day and was always very excited when we came home, there wasn't a day that went by that his tail wasn't wagging when he heard the truck in the driveway. On occasion he would want to come with me to the office and we'd just sit and chill all day. There's a reason why German shepherds are referred to as "velcro" dogs, anywhere I went, he was there for the ride. He will be deeply missed and there will be forever a hole in our hearts." MWD Rex, you were greatly loved and you loved greatly - the world will miss having you in it. We thank you for your service and we hope you're getting some good naps up there. 💙🐾 "No longer by my side, forever in my heart."

K9 Bowie has never been that much of a “treat” dog. However, every now and then he does enjoy a nice greenie and doesn’t mind sneaking a chicken nugget or two. Who could say No to this face?! "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Retired CT State Police K-9 Tobi #9089, a loyal companion to CT State Police First Class K-9 handler Bruce Lachance #944. K-9 Tobi, at the age of 9, succumbed to severe Gastrointestinal complications on Monday, 7/15/2024. The team at Central Hospital of Veterinary Medicine in Guilford spared no effort, even resorting to a major surgical intervention in a valiant attempt to save his life. Graduating from the CT State Police K9 academy in December 2015, K-9 Tobi faithfully served the State of CT at Troop L in Litchfield and Troop K in Colchester until his well-deserved retirement in October 2022. Throughout his seven years of service, K-9 Tobi demonstrated exceptional skills in locating and apprehending numerous suspects and missing individuals. His gentle spirit touched the lives of all who crossed his path, leaving behind a void that will be impossible to fill. K-9 Tobi will forever be cherished and deeply missed." K9 Tobi, we thank you for your service. We know your absence will be felt and we will keep your loved ones in our thoughts. Rest easy, Tobi 💙🐾 "Your memories will no doubt bring tears to my eyes but, that bit of sadness is worth remembering you."
