Women's Equality Day is a day to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment, which prohibits all states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States based on sex. However, millions of women continued to be confronted with discriminatory legislation with African American women being the last to receive the right to vote in August 1965, when the Voting Rights Act was signed into law. This prohibited racial discrimination in voting, thus finally granting all women in the United States the right to vote. On this Women's Equality Day, while we recognize there is still more work to be done, we celebrate the progress women have made to gain equal rights and opportunities.

We wish a very happy first birthday to Kane Nash, who was born at 23 weeks weighing just 15 ounces, less than a pound. He was an unexpected blessing as mom Amber didn’t think she could have children after overcoming ovarian cancer. Following a six month stay in the NICU, Kane has defied all odds and is thriving. Our Dr. Lisa McGill-Vargas, neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Eastern Washington, cared for Kane together with her team. She and Amber sat down with KHQ Local News to reflect on Kane’s miraculous journey as they celebrate this special milestone. https://brnw.ch/21wLKm8

As you plan for fun in the sun this summer, be sure to practice water safety. While drowning prevention should always be top of mind, it’s also important to recognize the signs of dry drowning, or delayed drowning. When a child experiences a non-fatal drowning incident, they may seem fine afterwards but later suffer serious respiratory symptoms. Our Dr. Todd Zimmerman, pediatric emergency medicine physician and medical director at Pediatrix® Emergency Medicine of Nevada, spoke with Care to discuss signs of delayed drowning and when to seek medical attention >> https://brnw.ch/21wLI3I.

Sweet summertime means lots of time spent in the water. But safety always comes first, and parents and caregivers should know that some popular children’s swim aids can increase the risk of drowning, which is the leading cause of death in kids ages 1 to 4. Our Dr. Jenelle Ferry, neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida, spoke with @todayshow about what swim aids to avoid and pool safety tips to follow. https://brnw.ch/21wLKlD

First trimester morning sickness can be rough. Fortunately for most, nausea and vomiting start to ease around 14 weeks. If symptoms linger, you could be suffering from a severe version called hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), which may require treatment. Our Dr. Suzy Lipinski, board-certified OBGYN at Obstetrix® of Colorado, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, spoke with Babylist about how HG is diagnosed and when the condition can affect baby >> https://brnw.ch/21wLI3F.
