About us
The Penguin Publishing Group is one of the leading trade book publishers in the United States, comprised of imprints with a long and rich history dating back to the nineteenth century. Penguin Books was originally founded in the UK in 1935 by Allen Lane, who envisioned a collection of quality, attractive books affordable enough to be “bought as easily and casually as a packet of cigarettes.” A United States office opened in 1939, called Penguin Books Ltd. The group merged with Putnam Berkley to become Penguin Putnam, Inc. in 1996, Penguin Group (USA) in 2003, and Penguin Publishing Group in 2014. Today, Penguin Publishing Group is the largest division of Penguin Random House, Inc.

Just love seeing more and more people discovering this wise and wonderful book.
Principal at Big Medium, design system consultant, web designer/developer, speaker, writer, musician, and artist
The Creative Act by Rick Rubin is one of the best books about creativity and the creative process. More than any other book I've found myself revisiting a lot of the nuggets shared in it. #creativity

My 19-year-old daughter is reading aloud to me from a book she keeps raving about that her boss is having her read: "Unreasonable Hospitality" {Will Guidara}, and it is "itching my brain," as she would say. She's been very curious lately about why she did not learn these strategies in school. Here are a few excerpts she's been excited to share: •Criticize the behavior, not the person. •Praise in public. Criticize in private. •Consistency is one of the most important aspects of being a leader. •A person cannot feel safe at work if they are apprehensive about what version of their manager they will encounter on any given day. •Nobody knows what they are doing until they do it. •Give feedback all the time. •Every person should hear what they did well instead of what they could do better. •If you cannot find more compliments to deliver than criticism, it's a failure in leadership. I have said it before, and I will say it again: Students CAN lead. Students WANT to lead. We just need to create experiences that allow them to do so.

"Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will Guidara is one of my favorite business books and a MUST READ for all law firm owners. First and foremost, it serves up valuable lessons for surpassing client expectations to makes you stand out above and beyond other law firms. But, perhaps more importantly, I love the lessons on empowering your team to take ownership of their roles and to stand in their power. To make contributions. "Once people have gotten a feel for how good it felt to make a contribution, they would start actively looking for a way to do it again. And it was a way for us to communicate, on a person's very first day: We hired you for a reason. We know you have something to contribute, and we don't want to wait to see what it is." Are you this kind of leader? Do you empower your team to take ownership like this? How? #foodforthought

Cal Newport asks us to rethink productivity, to move toward a results-based approach. It calls into question much of what we have been taught—and that’s a good thing.
What’s the best way to measure productivity? “An activity-based definition of productivity is not working anymore,” says author Cal Newport. He believes "a long-term results-oriented definition of productivity" is what we need. “In an outcome-driven productivity world, people can actually be valued for their expertise,” instead of how busy they are. How is productivity defined in your workplace? Tell us in the comments.
