AMAZING NEWS TO SHARE! ❤️ We are over-the-moon to introduce you to our newest bundle of joy: a three-week-old baby orangutan! This little redhead was born to mom Tua and dad Sugi on June 26. We're happy to report the baby continues to look healthy and strong, and Tua continues to be an excellent mother, nursing and holding her little one at all times. We haven't determined the sex of the baby or chosen a name just yet. This birth is a huge conservation milestone for this species. Sumatran orangutans are listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The baby’s birth is a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) breeding program to ensure the survival of this species and maintain a genetically diverse population in human care. Mom and baby are currently setting their own schedule for when they will be visible to guests. They have access to their indoor habitat where visitors may get a glimpse of them, but they also have access to their bedroom space to spend time alone. The Zoo is planning to have their big public debut sometime in mid-August— stay tuned for details! And we'll of course continue to keep you posted with all the adorable updates. We are so thankful to our team of keepers, curators and veterinary staff who continue to provide incredible care to ensure both mom and baby thrive. ❤️

Everyone give a warm welcome to Patty! 🦍 We're so excited to introduce you to the newest member of our western lowland gorilla troop. This 11-year-old female came to us from Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago on a Species Survival Plan (SSP) breeding recommendation with our silverback, Motuba. Our keepers say Patty is confident, super smart and adjusting well to her new home. How can you tell her apart from the rest of the troop? She is slightly smaller than our other adult females Honi and Kira and has a more prominent brow line. Visit her and the rest of the family at PECO Primate Reserve!

🚨 TRADE ALERT: KELCE & HARPER HEADED TO... We have some bittersweet news to share: our one-and-a-half-year-old sloth bear cubs Kelce and Harper will be moving to Lee Richardson Zoo in Kansas sometime in late spring/early summer. The move comes as a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Sloth Bear Species Survival Plan (SSP). Sloth bear cubs only stay with their mother for up to two years, and momma Kayla and the cubs are both demonstrating behaviors that it is the right time for the cubs to head to their new home. Named after legendary Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce and Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper, the cubs were instant stars when they made their public debut about a year ago. With their charming and playful personalities, the pair quickly became beloved by staff, volunteers, members and guests alike! We invite you to visit the Zoo during our daytime hours from 9:30am-5:00pm daily to wish the cubs good luck on their next adventure. They're typically exploring their habitat between 9:30am-11:00am and again from 2pm-4:30pm. If you have a favorite memory of the cubs, please share it in the comments 💚❤️
