Yesterday, the administration released the government-set prices for the first 10 medicines selected under the IRA. But even before the government-set prices were released, seniors and people with disabilities were facing increased access barriers in Part D because of how insurers are adapting to the law. For example, there are the fewest standalone Part D plans are available since the program was created this year. On top of that, it's unclear seniors will save money because of price setting. In fact, one analysis found more than 3 million beneficiaries taking medicines with government-set prices are likely to pay more out of pocket in 2026. This law does not prioritize patient access to needed medicines and cures. More here: https://lnkd.in/e_Grem7W

Today in AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care, Drs. Julie Patterson, John O'Brien, and Jon Campbell author a new analysis supporting the FDA’s conclusion that the #AcceleratedApproval (AA) Program is successfully working for patients. “Because of AA, patients and their clinicians have treatment options earlier than they otherwise would,” said the authors, “and this has likely led to more than 250,000 life-years gained in patients with cancer… The evidence suggests that the benefits of the AA Program — namely, expedited access to new drugs for patients with serious conditions and high unmet medical need — outweigh its risks.” Read the full commentary below.
