About us

Physician Side Gigs is the largest online physician community in the country, with ~190,000 verified physician members. We serve as an online physician lounge, where members can come together 24/7 to discuss all things life in medicine. While the community was founded to focus on side gigs and alternative income streams, as the platform grew, so did its scope. We now also discuss business, finance, clinical topics, advocacy, physician life, and more. The business side of Physician Side Gigs consists of two arms, a physician marketplace and a way of connecting physicians with the outside world. In the marketplace, we help companies find physician expertise for things like consulting, expert witness work, speaking, locums, telemedicine, writing, brand partnerships, start up advisors, and more. On the other side, we partner with companies to provide our members perks, discounts, resources, private practice tools, and education. Our favorite part of the communities, though, is watching members support each other every day as we all attempt to navigate an increasingly challenging healthcare landscape.     Excited to be featured in this Forbes article about the increasing popularity of side gigs amongst physicians! We've seen our membership go from a few hundred in 2016 to >180,000 verified physician members this year. While we'd like to believe this is at least in part because we build great communities, there are also macro-environmental drivers, including: - The desire for community and support at a time where connections with our colleagues and our patients are increasingly eroded at by time constraints from increasing workload and administrative tasks - The need for physicians to better understand business and finance to navigate an increasingly complex and commercialized healthcare landscape which now makes up ~20% of the nation’s GDP - The slowness of the healthcare industry to respond to the changing demographics and needs of an increasingly diverse workforce who on average has more responsibilities outside of work than prior generations - The need for physicians to be able to set boundaries and walk away from situations where unreasonable expectations are placed on them or where profits are put above patients It's been wonderful to help bring physicians together across specialty and stage of practice to discuss all this and more!
