The use of sedation during interventional procedures has led to rising costs and complications, but a recent study has now revealed that VR significantly reduces pain during procedures, offering a promising alternative for pain management. Studying 146 patients across 6 hospitals, the study found that VR significantly reduced procedure-related pain during epidural steroid injections, proving its potential as an effective non-pharmacological intervention. Patients also reported a more comfortable and less stressful experience, underscoring VR's value in enhancing patient care. So what does this mean for the future of pain management? On top of the fact that VR can reduce reliance on medications and enhance patient experience, the study also paves the way for broader applications of VR in healthcare, unlocking new possibilities for comprehensive and immersive treatment options.
