Don’t forget to vote for our SXSW panel before Sunday!
Today, corporations big and small are feeling pressure from consumers, regulators and employees to show the outcomes of their sustainability pledges and commitments. It can often feel like we aren't making progress, but that's not the case. There are more opportunities than ever before to prove the impact of sustainability programs. From reducing employees’ scope 3 work-from-home emissions to targeting scope 3 emission drivers during the development of CPG products, meaningful reductions are being made every day. We just don't always see them. That's why our founder, Julia Collins teamed up with Scope Zero founder Lizzy Kolar to create a #SXSW panel that spotlights the innovative technology solutions and corporations that are reducing scope 3 emissions and making lasting changes to mitigate the climate crisis. Please help us share this important conversation by voting for our panel here: https://lnkd.in/e_CjBncB

Brothers Adam Kaye and Jeremy Kaye knew when they founded The Spare Food Co. that they would need to quantify the amount of wasted food reduced and the lower carbon impact of their Spare Starter. But they also knew their unique supply chain and upcycling innovations would take special care to properly measure. Planet FWD’s ability to modify life cycle assessments to capture the benefits of upcycling food proved to be just the ticket. As a result, The Spare Food team can confidently claim that Spare Starter: ⬇ Has ~78% lower emissions than comparable ingredients 🥕 Saves 1.6 lbs of food per pound of product, including food saved at the farm and in food production 🚰 Uses 95.3% less water, when compared to a conventional benchmark Read more about our work with The Spare Food Co. here: https://lnkd.in/eJJSyxdr

Tomorrow Farms is on a mission to reinvent our favorite foods so they’re better for people, kinder to animals, and easier on the planet. It started to bring this vision to life with Bored Cow, which is made with dairy-identical milk protein from fermentation instead of cows. But from the beginning, the team knew they couldn't just say they were more sustainable. Ben Berman, CEO and co-founder, shared, "If we’re going to talk the talk, we better have the data to back up the walk as well!" So they turned to Planet FWD to quantify and report the impact of their innovation through a life cycle assessment (LCA) Benchmark Analysis against dairy and non-dairy milks. The results? From “farm to factory” when compared to conventional and organic dairy milk, Bored Cow requires up to: 👩🌾 96% less land 🚰 uses up to 67% less water, and 📉 emits up to 44% fewer greenhouse gas emissions Now, the company is using LCAs to support its product development, and uses this work to "empower individuals and families across the country to make more sustainable choices with confidence." We are so grateful to partner with Ben and his team, including Claire Markoff, Sara Scheffler and Jennifer Mezzapelle to help them tell the story of their sustainable success. Want to build better sustainability programs? Sit down with the industry’s best. That’s what we did with Jane Kuhn from Once Upon a Farm, Lindsay Dahl from Ritual, and Katina Boutis from Everlane. Fashion sustainability expert Katina Boutis shared the importance of focusing your efforts to drive the biggest impact in the shortest amount of time. For Everlane, their efforts are focused on Scope 3.1 and 3.4 - aka purchased good and services and upstream transportation and logistics, respectively - where the bulk of their emissions come from. This targeted approach has worked wonders with Katina and her team. Want to hear what else these experts had to share? Check out the full recording here: https://lnkd.in/eW-D3p63

When we joined Sustainable Brands and sustainability expert Lindsay Dahl from Ritual, we pulled back the curtain on the impact of climate data management. One of Lindsay’s top tips? Build strong relationships with your suppliers. These relationships are critical to getting the data that can actually drive action. Because good data leads to better information and more informed decision-making as a team. It can give your internal teams a shared understanding and grounding that leads to minimizing your impact. Lindsay’s seen the impacts firsthand - from uncovering where emissions reduction levers exist to evaluating an ingredient swap. Having strong supplier relationships has been the key to driving action. Detailed data points for product-level LCAs have opened up conversations internally, whether about the opportunities to reduce emissions in their shipper boxes or for key sourcing decisions around conventional or regenerative organic ingredients.
