Let's call it a "parade". In campus protests, police prioritizing peaceful responses through effective communication, empathy, and respect for civil liberties is a way that everyone goes home at night. In our latest Rightful Policing newsletter, read more about Peace Officer response to campus protests and how approaches like pre-event dialogue, de-escalation training, maintaining a visible but non-threatening presence, collaboration with organizers, and flexibility in response strategies can foster trust and positive relationships within the campus community, creating a safer environment for everyone.

With Georgia POST doubling training hours from 400 to 800, an invaluable shift is under way in preparing their Peace Officers to serve communities effectively, empathetically, and justly. With the new 800 hour requirement, recruits will have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement principles, conflict de-escalation, and community engagement. This extended training period allows for deeper immersion in critical topics, better preparing officers to handle diverse situations with professionalism and empathy. Now with this enhanced training, Georgia policing agencies will gain officers who are well-equipped to make informed decisions, build trust within communities, and uphold justice, ultimately helping build a safer, more respectful, and cohesive society that works for everybody. https://lnkd.in/dqGqEHif

Can the recent Grants Pass decision by the Supreme Court bring about best practices for communities in supporting vulnerable populations? We think so. What it takes is a community that wants to address homelessness as a "whole of community" problem, include the cops as key stakeholders in the process, integrate some cutting edge technology, and actually work to solve the problem. https://lnkd.in/eXWEwBY4

If we want cops to serve as Peace Officers, how do agencies measure that? And how do officers know they're succeeding at it? Read about how agencies can create a model performance appraisal that gives them metrics for cops' performance as Peace Officers so we can measure policing that's effective, empathetic and just.https://https://lnkd.in/eF32dy7p
