Next up in our Carbon Jargon series, we’re covering blue carbon, the organic carbon stored in ocean and coastal ecosystems. More specifically, blue carbon represents carbon stored above- and below-ground in tidal and marine coastal ecosystems such as mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, or tidal marshes.   Coastal ecosystems are some of the most carbon-rich ecosystems on earth but are also under threat. In addition to carbon sequestration, marine ecosystems can help increase the resilience of coastal land in the face of climate change and provide critical habitat for a range of marine species.   Pollination Law has advised on the key contracts to enable carbon financing for the world’s largest mangrove restoration and conservation carbon project, developed and managed by Indus Delta Capital in Indus Delta, Sindh Province, Pakistan.   #carbonjargon #climateaction

Pollination Law is launching a new Carbon Jargon content series, where we'll be diving into some key topics related to carbon markets. To kick things off, we're touching on the differences between ex-post and ex-ante carbon credits.   Ex-post carbon credits are earned after verifiable emissions reductions have taken place. They reward real and measurable carbon reduction efforts, making them a reliable tool for fighting climate change. On the other hand, ex-ante carbon credits are earned in advance, based on projected emissions reductions. While they promote investments in sustainable projects, they come with uncertainties and risks if emissions aren't reduced as expected.   Both have a role to play in the fight against climate change, but understanding their differences is key to making informed choices. #carbonmarkets #climateaction

Australia’s ecosystems underpin the economy to a significant degree and are currently under threat. With the extent to which the economy relies on nature, it's clear that nature-related risks have the power to harm the vitality of Australian companies if not properly disclosed and mitigated. Recently in Australia, Pollination Law team members Laura Waterford, Olivia Back, and Veda FitzSimons supported the development of a legal opinion, asserting that any director who is not acting to identify and manage material natural risks will be exposing themselves to potential legal consequences under Australian law for breaching their duties.
