Today, a draft decision was circulated in the U.S. Supreme Court consolidated case about the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). We should not be fooled. If this decision is accurate, the health and lives of pregnant people across the country will continue to be at risk.

Roe provided a false sense of security. Since its fall two years ago, anyone who can get pregnant is increasingly at risk of criminalization for ANY pregnancy outcome—especially people of color and poor people. This is why we fight for access and autonomy. Anything else is unacceptable.

Access to Mifepristone remains the same, but we know the fight is far from over. The Supreme Court made the only right choice by refusing to give in to anti-abortion extremists. These attempts are about control, not medicine.

Etowah County officials say they incarcerate pregnant women to "protect unborn life," but their actions prove the opposite. Ashley Caswell almost died giving birth in their jail shower in Alabama — laboring alone for hours and being ignored. We're suing Etowah County officials on Ashley’s behalf with Southern Poverty Law Center & Sullivan & Cromwell LLP for failing to care for her, as they have failed many others.
