Book and Periodical Publishing
Princeton University Press is a leading independent publisher of trade and scholarly books by the world's experts.
About us
Princeton University Press is an independent publisher with close connections, both formal and informal, to Princeton University. As such it has overlapping responsibilities to the University, the academic community, and the reading public. Our fundamental mission is to disseminate scholarship (through print and digital media) both within academia and to society at large. We select for publication only scholarship of the highest quality on all levels regardless of commercial viability: specialized monographs making an original contribution to knowledge within a subdiscipline; titles appealing to a broader range of scholars and professionals in a single discipline; interdisciplinary academic works intended for readers in more than one subject area; and works by scholars aimed at bringing the findings of a discipline to the larger, well-educated reading public. Some titles from all these categories are also eventually used in the classroom as supplemental course reading. We also publish texts specifically intended for student use at the graduate and undergraduate level. We seek to publish the innovative works of the greatest minds in academia, from the most respected senior scholar to the extraordinarily promising graduate student, in each of the disciplines in which we publish. The Press consciously acquires a collection of titles – a coherent ‘list’ of books – in each discipline, providing focus, continuity, and a basis for the development of future publications. Through the publication of works of scholarly significance, Princeton University Press fulfills part of the mission of Princeton University by furthering its fundamental commitment to the dissemination of knowledge.

Linda Miller Feltner's Drawing Nature is a visually stunning exploration of the artistic process by an award-winning nature artist. Drawing Nature presents the creative process of an acclaimed nature artist, guiding readers from field sketches to finished art and demonstrating how science and the close observation of nature can be integrated into the artist’s work to create dynamic, meaningful images. With chapters that flow from drawing basics to more advanced methods and concepts, this beautifully illustrated book is like a look inside the artist’s sketchbooks to discover their secrets. Linda Miller Feltner demonstrates how observation and recording are sparks to creativity. Her journey from loose sketches and drawings to a completed work begins with observing a natural process, object, or interaction between organisms. Her curiosity generates scientific inquiry that, when researched, helps her to answer a question or make broad, often surprising connections. Blending examples of her stunning artwork with invaluable insights into time-honored art techniques, Feltner illustrates how sketching, developing an image, and scientific accuracy are essential to her art and encourages each of us to cultivate our own powers of observation and discover anew the world around us. Drawing Nature enables us to look at nature through an artist’s eyes, draw inspiration from a place or a moment, and give expression to its beauty. Now available. Now available in paperback, hardcover, & ebook, Statistical Mechanics of Phases and Phase Transitions is an engaging undergraduate introduction to the statistical mechanics of phase transitions. Statistical mechanics deploys a powerful set of mathematical approaches for studying the thermodynamic properties of complex physical systems. This textbook introduces students to the statistical mechanics of systems undergoing changes of state, focusing on the basic principles for classifying distinct thermodynamic phases and the critical phenomena associated with transitions between them. Uniquely designed to promote active learning, Statistical Mechanics of Phases and Phase Transitions presents some of the most beautiful and profound concepts in physics, enabling students to obtain an essential understanding of a computationally challenging subject without getting lost in the details. • Provides a self-contained, conceptually deep introduction to the statistical mechanics of phases and phase transitions from a modern perspective • Carefully leads students from spontaneously broken symmetries to the universality of phase transitions and the renormalization group • Encourages student-centric active learning suitable for both the classroom and self-study • Features a wealth of guided worksheets with full solutions throughout the book that help students learn by doing • Includes informative appendixes that cover key mathematical concepts and methods • Ideal for undergraduate physics majors and beginning graduate students • Solutions manual for all end-of-chapter problems (available only to instructors) Learn more about this marvelous book: https://hubs.ly/Q02BB81D0
