What does Power Training look like as we get older? The process is the same as when we are younger, just not usually carried out to the same intensity and volume. We always start with deceleration and being able to absorb force and then gradually and systematically work up to activities like sprinting and medicine ball variations Check out this week's entire Listener Q&A episode, packed with more of your questions here: On all major podcast platforms: https://lnkd.in/efjWa62N and on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/er4NNpMM Skill of Strength Perform Better Functional Movement Systems

On one of our most recent podcasts our guest was Tim Kettenring, Performance Director for NOLA Gold Professional Rugby. Tim gave us some great insight into conditioning and energy systems development, but it was an exchange that Tim and I had as we were wrapping up the show about the mental health of coaches that seem to really strike a chord, as several people have reached out to me about it since. As coaches and trainers, we are expected to portray a certain image. “It must be great that you get to work out all day” “I better not do this/eat that in front of the trainer. He/she never drinks/eats junk/skips workouts, etc.” “It’s easier for you to be in shape, you do this for a living.” Maybe I missed it, but my certification or degree didn’t come with a cape. We struggle too. Sometimes a lot. We just can’t show it. No one wants to show up for their workout and get depressed. They want to be motivated, inspired and pushed to their potential and it is our obligation to provide that – even though we may not be feeling that ourselves at that moment. Tim and I had a very open discussion about this. I applauded Tim for always being transparent in his own content and was hoping to bring some of that same reality to our audience. Take 5 minutes today to check out the video We don’t necessarily offer any solutions, but sometime it just helps to know you’re not the only one dealing with something. Hopefully it helps you if you have ever felt the same. Skill of Strength Perform Better Tim Kettenring

What is "Constraints Based Coaching?" In the constraints-led approach, coaches shape and guide rather than direct and will manipulate the individual, environmental and task constraints to help shape the learners performances through guided discovery and self-exploration. In other words, set up identifiable guard rails and then shut up and let them figure it out We discuss this and much more on this week's podcast with our guest Tony Bonvechio. You know what the problem with a 12-Week Program program is? Life happens. If there is no room for adjustment in the program to account for recovery factors such as sleep, stress, nutrition, etc., then it can lead to training hard than you should on some days and not as hard as you could have on others. We discuss this and much more on this week's podcast with our guest Tony Bonvechio. Earlier in my career I was all for having record boards in the weight room and max strength testing throughout the off-season. Then I changed my mind for a few reasons: -The risk wasn't worth the reward -The athletes weren't really proficient enough to even get an accurate number -It wasn't necessarily correlating with our results on the field We discuss this controversial topic and more on this week's podcast with our guest Tony Bonvechio. As a trainer or coach, it is easy to fall into the trap of assigning your clients and athletes programs that were successful for you, but not necessarily best for them. Can conditioning build mental toughness??? This can be a slippery slope, especially when you get overly enthusiastic coaches who think they can train their high school freshman like Navy SEALS. However, there are ways to safely and creatively build fortitude and resilience via training if done properly. We discuss how with this week's podcast guest Tim Kettenring, High Performance Director for NOLA Gold Rugby.
