How to be the best part of the worst day in a patient’s life? It’s always enlightening talking to Steve Wirth and Rob Lawrence caught up with Steve for a quick Prodigy Talk. In terms of patient care, Steve notes that “It all comes down to giving your best to the patient 110% of the time.” He encourages us to go the extra mile, more than just doing what the patient asked you to do, like ‘take me to the hospital’ and not just doing what treatment is expected, but making that experience a positive thing… treating the patient like this is going to be the best experience they've had all day.” In Steve’s own words: “With the polarization of our society and the fact that we're so busy and stressed out and short staffed and everything, we’ve got to bring it back to the patient and remember, hey, we may be having a bad day but we can't let that affect how we work with patients.” Steve looks to the law to identify that there are malpractice cases that show one of the main reasons why people sue is because they don't like you, because you were rude to them, because the health care provider didn't communicate with them.
