Last week the Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) community held its annual Captain Training Seminar, also known as #EDOCTS. RADM Tom Anderson took the opportunity to gather the #SURFPACK #EDO group and have them to his home for some camaraderie and fun. This is a tremendous group of ship acquirers who are getting more players on the field for the Navy and Marine Corps Team! #SURFPACKMentorGroup #SURFPACKSocial #PEOSHIPS #PEOUSC

30 July was an awesome day to have a ceremony to mark Capt. Cedric McNeal’s departure as the Amphibious Warfare program manager in PEO Ships and to welcome Capt. Matthew Tardy to the role! Capt. Tardy joins us after completing a tour at Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) as Commanding Officer. He is also a #TeamShips alum having served as a program manager in Navy Regional Maintenance Center and Surface Ship Maintenance, Modernization and Sustainment Capt. McNeal successfully led the Amphibious Warfare program team through a historic reorganization and skillfully oversaw the post-delivery period for LHA 7 during the height of the pandemic ensuring the ship was delivered to the fleet fully mission capable and Joint Strike Fighter ready and as a result of that effort, he and his team received the 2022 DoD David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award. His personal achievements include the 2022 Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Excellence Award for Program Management. #FairWindsAndFollowingSeas as he embarks upon his new adventure as the Executive Assistant to Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition. Simply put, Capt. McNeal is one of the Navy’s best and the team in PEO Ships will miss him tremendously! #Shipbuilding #NAVSEA

#TeamShips celebrated the transfer of custody of the General Dynamics - Bath Iron Works built, USS Carl M. Levin (DDG 120) from those who have brought her to life to those who will keep her strong throughout her lifetime so she can keep the fleet going. James Day, Deputy Director for Surface Warfare, #OPNAV served as the guest speaker at the event, reminding all of the importance of the work they do to support surface warfare around the globe. It was an honor to have the ship sponsors, who are the daughters of the ship’s namesake, Kate Levin Markel, Laura Levin and Erica Levin join us virtually for the event. We appreciate their participation and their enduring support of #DDG120 and its crew. #BravoZulu to all those in #PEOShips, PEO IWS and DON PEO C4I that aided in building this ship and to those in Navy Regional Maintenance Center and Surface Ship Maintenance, Modernization and Sustainment who are taking over her care. We also thank the many Navy and industry partners for their tireless work! #NAVSEA #NavyPride

#WorldClassShips and #MaritimeStatecraft The US Navy and U.S. Coast Guard team’s visit to Finland finnished (pun intended 😊) today with visits to Arctic experts at Aker Arctic Technology Inc, ABB Marine, Arctia Ltd and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Aker Arctic has been at the forefront of ice model testing tech for decades. Their third-generation testing facility includes an in-house ice model basin with bottom-and-side-viewing windows, for visualization of a ship model's interaction with ice and icy conditions. Thank you to Business Finland and all those who made this week’s exchange so productive. The Finnish maritime ecosystem is impressive; their icebreaker design and construction expertise and capabilities are world-class; and we look forward to future, mutually beneficial collaboration with our NATO partners. The US Navy / U.S. Coast Guard team continues their education on the Finnish #Shipbuilding Ecosystem. Today they toured Rauma Marine Constructions Oy Shipyard (which is building ice-capable Corvettes for the Finnish Navy) and Meyer Turku Shipyard (Finland's largest shipyard, which recently delivered the #WorldsLargestCruiseShip, “Icon of the Seas”). Finland is a strategic partner, a relatively new NATO member and a world-class figure in #PolarAndArctic ship design and construction.
