June 1 marks the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season, and this year forecasters are predicting more named storms and an above-average probability for tropical landfall in the U.S. Today, we met with the American Red Cross Greater New York and a number of emergency response organizations and officials, to raise awareness and help our communities prepare for hurricanes. As we continue to improve and strengthen the grid, we want to remind everyone that the time to prepare is now, before a storm is headed our way.

Just because a business is small doesn’t mean it isn’t important. The small businesses on our island are 50% of our economy. These businesses are part of the fabric of our communities. They’re vital. We’ve been proudly supporting our small businesses since 2014 with cost-saving programs and services. Show your support, too, by shopping locally during #SmallBusinessWeek (and all year long). National Small Business Week is April 28–May 4.

We’re celebrating lineworkers who light the way! When severe weather strikes, they put on their personal protective equipment, don their weather gear and answer the call, day or night. On #NationalLineworkerAppreciationDay, we salute the lineworkers dedicated to getting the lights back on and strengthening the energy grid for Long Island and the Rockaways. Lineworkers are extensively trained to handle the potentially hazardous work of installing, repairing and replacing high-voltage electrical equipment. They prioritize the safety of themselves and members of the public and are empowered to stop a job if they see something unsafe. "When storms, blizzards or other natural disasters damage equipment and cause customer outages, it requires the 24/7 dedication and hard work of our skilled lineworkers to replace poles, lines and transformers safely and as quickly as possible, bringing normalcy back to communities across Long Island and the Rockaways. Today we honor their contribution to our mission to provide safe, resilient and reliable service to all of our customers.” - Michael Sullivan – VP of Electric Operations, PSEG Long Island Lineworkers are not just essential during storms. They support the daily needs of 1.2 million electric customers on Long Island and in the Rockaways. They also support vital work that will strengthen the grid against storms and prepare the transmission infrastructure to support the connection of renewables such as solar and the offshore wind generation coming online in the next decade to support New York State’s ambitious carbon emissions reduction goals. While lineworkers ensure people’s homes have electricity for WiFi, air conditioning and other electrical necessities, the work they do also supports life at a much more fundamental level by ensuring vital infrastructure such as hospitals and water treatment facilities continue functioning. In the aftermath of hurricanes, wind, thunderstorms, and during times of extreme heat and cold, they perform demanding, physical tasks to deliver for the customer. We are thrilled to announce our upcoming, first-ever Heat Pump Technologies and Solutions Conference to be held on April 4th at the Hilton Long Island / Huntington. We anticipate that this will be one of the largest Heat Pump events ever held on the East Coast.   The venue is perfect for contractors, builders, architects, engineers, and developers performing HVAC work as well as commercial customers seeking to learn how to transition their businesses towards fossil-fuel-free heating and cooling. Registration is now open and we have an exciting day planned for companies to learn more about how heat pump technologies are transforming the way families and businesses heat and cool their homes and facilities. The day is packed with fifteen informative break-out sessions covering the various technologies, how they perform, and how they could be integrated into your business planning process.   Additionally, Rory Christian - Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Commission – will be our keynote speaker and will discuss New York’s ambitious energy and climate change agenda, and goals and how these policies will impact Long Island.   Please register now @ https://lnkd.in/ep6-PxPu
