New reporting on how insurance companies make it so hard for therapists to work with them, leading therapists to leave those networks. Insurers routinely underpay therapists, over-tax them with administrative hassles, take back payments they made for therapy sessions that were done months ago, and question whether therapy is even needed. No wonder we have a shortage of in-network therapists. Thanks, ProPublica - awesome reporting! https://lnkd.in/gHZtgsR6. #mentalhealth, #therapy, #mentalhealthawareness Optum United Behavioral Health

Great report on how to improve access for therapy! Pay therapists more + reduce unnecessary admin burdens = more therapy available for more people in need. Let's hope that Medicare, Medicaid and marketplace insurance make these improvements - and that private insurance quickly follows suit. There's too much suffering to wait any longer. https://lnkd.in/gRH5RjPJ. Please join us for this wonderful event with Usha Tummala-Narra. Usha will be challenging the myths concerning therapies of depth, insight and relationship with racial and ethnic minority clients, and how these myths shape racial disparities in access to mental healthcare. We’ll explore both the historical neglect of sociocultural issues in clinical therapy and more recent perspectives on culturally informed psychodynamic therapy, as well as the dire need for improved access to depth therapy. CEs are optional, thanks to Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy at Loyola University Chicago. Friday August 2, 9a-12pm Central, via Zoom. Check out this insightful, free & on-demand CE course with our chair and co-founder Linda Michaels and medical director of Austen Riggs, Eric Plakun. It’s especially relevant today, when so many companies are trying to sell quick-fix pseudo-therapies!
In these last few years we have witnessed unprecedented upheaval in the areas of politics, social justice, the natural world, and public health. To help our patients and to support our practices, communities and the field as a whole, it is vitally important to understand what people are looking for in mental health treatment, and how they think and feel about the therapies we offer. It’s also crucial that public awareness and appreciation of therapies of depth, insight, and relationship improve. These therapies have been missing from, if not pushed out of, the public consciousness, and are misunderstood, undervalued, and overlooked by the general public. Check out our latest enduring CE/CME course with Eric Plakun and Linda Michaels to learn more. https://lnkd.in/eH4CPukR

Please join us this Saturday at 11:00am CST for this presentation of new, original research from PsiAN, with thanks to our CE-sponsoring partner, Institute for Clinical Social Work. We started this process in 2020 with original research – the first of its kind – and we learned what the public wants from therapy, their biases and misperceptions, obstacles to seeking care, and more! Now we have new research from late 2023, and offer a post-pandemic read on the public's perception of their own mental health, and their attitudes towards therapy, apps, and more. Please join us for this deep dive into the public’s attitudes, preferences, biases and misperceptions. Discussion to follow. Presenters include Linda Michaels, PsiAN Chair & Co-founder and Santiago Delboy, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. Moderated by Bevin Campbell, psychotherapist. https://lnkd.in/gx4WsCN9 #psychotherapy #therapy #mentalhealth

Petition still open! Please sign to adovocate for high-caliber mental health treatment.
Calling all therapists, patients, and those who value high-caliber mental health treatment - please sign our petition & give feedback to the WHO on its new treatment guidelines, which omit psychodynamic therapy! This neither aligns with the evidence base, nor with what many patients want from therapy. https://lnkd.in/g_bVSnSJ #psychotherapy #psychodynamic #mentalhealthmatters
