Powering Change Through Education
About us
PsychArmor is a nonprofit that offers critical resources to Americans so they can effectively engage with and support military service members, Veterans, and their families. Because fewer than 7% of Americans serve or have served in uniform, most civilians are unfamiliar with military culture. As a result, members of the military and Veteran community often feel misunderstood and reluctant to seek support. Our mission is to bridge that civilian-military gap by educating a nation. At PsychArmor, we provide free online training videos delivered by national subject matter experts who are fiercely committed to educating the civilian community about military culture. Additionally, our Support Center provides follow-up coaching to reinforce the knowledge conveyed in our courses.

On today’s episode, we feature a replay of a recent PsychArmor Conversations Webcast, an engaging conversation on the past, present, and future of the LGBTQIA+ Community In Service and Beyond. Duane France hosted a diverse panel of individuals with lived experience in both the military and the LGBTQIA+ Veteran community. Thank you Arrianna Auva'a, Larry Hetu-Robert, and Allison Jaslow 👉 The conversation touched on: 1️⃣ How the recent Presidential pardon for those dishonorably discharged under Don't Ask, Don't Tell is a good thing, but not enough. 2️⃣ The need for culture change to start at the top and be considered a readiness issue. 3️⃣ The importance of end-of-life care for that honors military service for LGBTQIA+ Veterans. 4️⃣ A recognition of the advancements in acceptance for LGBTQIA+ Veterans serving currently. Listen in to gain more culturally responsive knowledge and tools needed to support LGBTQIA+ Veterans more effectively. PsychArmor is honored to be a part of the Face The Fight coalition. Our suicide prevention training supports the incredible numbers in this report. Be part of the solution: access the Face The Fight online courses here: https://lnkd.in/gpxbXpB2
Just one year after launch, Face The Fight is projected to save thousands of veteran lives. The veteran suicide rate is one and a half times the national average, and the warrior ethos furthers the idea that asking for help is a weakness. In reality, it is a strength. Face the Fight was started alongside our partners, Humana Foundation and Reach Resilience, to help break the stigma around asking for help and foster real, open conversations around support and hope. As we look back on a year in this fight, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together with our partners, and you can read more about our progress in our inaugural report (https://lnkd.in/gZqnThzP). I'm inspired by the many organizations and individuals who have rallied around the military community and their families on this important issue. To those with whom we haven’t yet locked arms, we invite you to join us. There is strength in asking for help. If you need support, call 988.

Over 2,300 folks registered and attending the #VA #DoD #Suicide #Prevention #Conference with the theme of Reimagining Suicide Prevention: Evolving and Innovating to Meet Diverse Needs. Day 1 was amazing and I’m looking forward today for Day 2! Some of the great things I heard and seen throughout Day 1 were: 🎯 #SecVA shared 4 inspiring Veteran stories and how he wanted to learn more from them and share their lived experiences. Reminding to never be ashamed of your story one day it will inspire others! 🎯Matthew Miller, PHD, MPH shared how we must “Increase our awareness beyond our corporate perspectives and biases if we let them and it will increase our ability to deliver equitable and inclusive prevention, intervention, and postvention programs and resources.” He also shared the foundational principles that we bring into VA today. “Suicide is preventable!” “Suicide prevention will require a public health approach that attends to the individual and community!” “Everyone has a role to play- small things are BIG!” 🎯Co-Faciliated a workshop with some amazing folks: Utilizing Data From an Intersectional Lens: How Large Companies, Non-Profits, and Research Institutions Can Identify High-Risk Sub-groups Target Prevention/PostVention Efforts, Can Effectively Partner on Training Sachi H. | Brian J. Masterson, MD, MPH Dr. Tina Atherall, DSW, LMSW | Eileen Clegg | Vladimir Tikhtman Throughout the conference some great conversations and themes have emerged which are: 🎯#Peersupport is one of strongest assets in VA in preventing veteran suicide, how can we continue to lean in and support this amazing work. 🎯#Purpose - Finding one’s purpose and being driven and empowered to endless possibilities. So many stories have been shared about how they found their purpose and are now thriving! 🎯#Innovative- We must continue to radically transforming our health care through disruptive innovation. 🎯#Relationships/#Connectedness- There is power through the relationships we have and the connectenesss that bonds us when serving for a greater cause 🎯#Partnerships VA can not do this alone and we must continue to support, build trusted relationships, and strengthen our communities through trusted partnerships, together we can accomplish so much more! 🎯#Silobusting - We must continue to “think outside the box”, be bold, innovative and most importantly be ready, willing, and able get **** done! Stay tuned for Day 2 highlights! #VA #DoD #veterans #veteransreachout #veteransuicideprevention #suicideprevention #Innovation #increasethereach U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Defense Suicide Prevention Office (DSPO)

Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) has recently released results from their 2023 Military Family Support Programming Survey. The report looked at overall health in military families, specifically health and mental health care and access to services, among other data points. Data showed that with more positive healthcare experiences, overall family health improved. We can continue to improve military families satisfaction with healthcare and mental healthcare by increasing providers' knowledge of military culture and the best ways to support military-connected patients. Follow Military Family Advisory Network for more updates on this data. And thank you to all at MFAN for your diligent work in supporting service members and their families. This organization really is doing the work to understand and amplify the needs of military-connected families and inspire data-informed change. 👏 👏 👏
