A new, non-profit organization supporting psychologists of color throughout graduate school, licensure, & beyond.
About us
Psychologists of Color, Inc. seeks to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of the psychologist workforce. The mission of Psychologists of Color, Inc. is to increase the number of psychologists of color completing graduate school, becoming licensed, and successfully launching their careers. We offer targeted support services (including mentorship, support groups, academic tutoring, test preparation, and business coaching) to psychologists of color. At its core, this non-profit is about racial justice and equality within the field of psychology. As psychologists, we have been aware of the lack of racial/ethnic diversity within our professional community for some time. Though we have seen meaningful increases in the numbers of students of color entering graduate programs for psychology, we know that acceptance into graduate school is just the beginning of this complicated journey towards licensure and successful careers as psychologists. If you would like to support the work of Psychologists of Color, Inc. by donating you can do so here: https://psychologistsofcolor.com/donate Your donations will help provide financial assistance to up and coming psychologists of color for the cost of resources (books, study materials, study programs, etc.) associated with the support services they are receiving through Psychologists of Color, Inc. A percentage of donations will also cover the organization's operating expenses. Your donations are tax exempt!

The article titled "Diversity in the Mental Healthcare Profession: Then and Now" on Psychology.org explores the ongoing challenges and historical context surrounding the lack of diversity in the mental health field. It highlights how the profession has long been dominated by white, heterosexual men, leading to foundational concepts that often ignored or misrepresented the experiences of marginalized groups. The article discusses the persistent barriers that people of color and other underrepresented groups face when entering the mental health profession, such as financial burdens and limited access to mentorship. Join us in championing diversity and inspiring change in the mental healthcare profession. Together, we can create an inclusive and just landscape that reflects the rich diversity of the communities we serve. #ChampionDiversity #InspireChange #EqualityInHealthcare #InclusiveMentalHealthcare #psychologistsofcolor

In our shared mission as advocates for mental health, we face a critical challenge: the need for cultural competence in therapy. The lack of diversity among psychologists and culturally aware providers often leads to a therapy environment dominated by western values. This imbalance overlooks the unique experiences of marginalized communities. The result? Ethnic clients may feel their struggles are minimized, leading to feelings of marginalization. Treatments may not be tailored to their cultural context, reducing their effectiveness and discouraging further help-seeking. Misunderstandings about cultural nuances can also lead to misdiagnosis or underdiagnosis of mental health conditions in diverse populations. Now is the time to act. Let's champion diversity and equality in therapy. Let's inspire change and build a society where everyone is treated equally. Stand with us. Support Psychologists of Color.
