On Sept. 9, team member Amesha G., Senior Associate of Engagement and Communications, attended Bridging Faith to the Future of Genomic Research at Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. This panel, in partnership with the The National Institutes of Health's All of Us Research Program and the Faith Based Genetic Research Institute, explored the intersections of race, faith, and science. The event featured a distinguished panel of speakers, including Dr. Karriem Watson, Chief Engagement Officer of the All of Us Research Program; Dr. Tshaka Cunningham, Executive Director of the Faith-based Genetic Research Institute; Dr. Fatimah Jackson-Best, Director of the Cobb Research Laboratory at Howard University; Dr. Chazeman Jackson, PhD, MA, Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the American Society of Human Genetics; and Roslyn M. Brock (She/Her), Associate Pastor and Chief Global Equity Officer at Abt Global. Amesha felt deeply connected to Dr. Fatimah Jackson’s presentation, which highlighted the importance of #communityengagement in genomic research, the connection between African American resilience and faith, and challenges to advancing #healthequity. As an advocate for eliminating #healthdisparities in marginalized communities, Amesha was grounded in how Dr. Jackson’s message ties back to the work we do at Pyxis Partners. The inclusion of community voices in health research is essential to improving health outcomes. Watch this outstanding conversation between the panelists: https://lnkd.in/et4xTBQf

At Pyxis Partners, we remain steadfast in our commitment to enhancing #healthequity, access, and affordability and our mission to advance policies and programs that result in positive change and improved health outcomes for everyone in the United States. Together, we can continue to drive forward the critical #research and #advocacy needed to achieve health equity for all, through efforts such as those examined in Back to Basics: HIV/AIDS Advocacy As A Model For Catalyzing Change, authored by Pyxis Partners CEO Michael Manganiello, Principal Ronnie Tepp, and others (https://lnkd.in/eTiJcFPx). We dedicate this work to Christopher Reeve, our “Superman”, and to the millions of Americans who suffer and have suffered from conditions, diseases, and illnesses that we hope will one day be curable. The upcoming documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story”, which debuts later this month, underscores the enduring importance of health research to the Reeve family’s inspiring legacy, and we are #PyxisProud to help carry on the important work that Christopher, Dana, and Michael accomplished to pave the way for community advocates to dedicate their lives to making impactful, long-lasting change in the health equity and research space.

Pyxis Partners President & CEO Michael Manganiello met Dana Reeve (then Dana Morosini) when they were both waiting tables in Manhattan in the 1980s, shortly before Dana met her future husband, Christopher Reeve. Chris and Dana placed their unwavering trust in Michael, which led to an impactful, enduring relationship. The passion that Chris and Dana shared elevated everyone around them, and, in many ways, inspired Michael to model Pyxis Partners after many of the lessons that he learned from them. That passion lives on in the Reeve Foundation, in Pyxis Partners, and in so many other advocacy organizations around the country. We encourage everyone to watch “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story”, when it debuts later this month. #Superman #healthequity #healthresearch #documentary #disabilityrights

Next month, Warner Bros. Pictures will release “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story”, a documentary about the remarkable story of Christopher Reeve, star of four Superman films from 1978-1987, and his profound impact on spinal cord research and quality of life improvements for individuals with mobility impairments. More than just an actor, Chris was an author, an activist, and a fearless advocate for spinal cord research and disability rights. Pyxis Partners President & CEO, Michael Manganiello, who has been a pioneering advocate for health equity and medical research throughout his career, is highlighted in the documentary for his personal relationship with Chris and Dana and the work they accomplished together in starting The Christopher Reeve Foundation and championing spinal cord injury research, embryonic stem cell research, and the rights of the disabled. As the first Senior Vice President of Government Relations at the foundation, Michael played a crucial role in elevating the organization to national prominence. Listen to Michael talk about what it means to be featured in this upcoming film about the life and legacy of his late friends, Christopher and Dana Reeve. #Superman #healthequity #healthresearch #documentary
