About us
Rainbow Place is an emergency shelter. We work with women at the very beginning of their transition out of homelessness. Our primary focus is to keep the women we serve safe during the harsh winter months and help transition them out of homelessness. We are open from November 1 - March 31. Our clients receive a warm, safe place to sleep, a hot dinner, breakfast, a bag lunch, shower, laundry facilities, access to case management, limited storage space, limited transportation, and referrals to local social service and treatment programs. Our guests are women, 18 years of age or older. To stay with us they must meet the definition of homeless (A person is considered homeless if, without HUD assistance, they would have to spend the night in a homeless shelter or in a place not meant for human habitation). They must also be willing to adhere to Rainbow Place Rules. Clients may be referred from the Montgomery County Crisis Center (240-777-4000), one of the local homeless outreach teams, or by self-referral. All self-referrals are directed to the Crisis Center for an initial screening before returning for shelter services.

Today we send a HUGE thank you to Christ Episcopal Church, Rockville and the volunteers of The Bargain Box for a wonderfully good deed! For quite a while we had planned to replace our army cots with higher quality beds, especially since many of our guests suffer from back issues. The cost was just too high for us. Happily, we have amazing supporters, among them are the volunteers from The Bargain Box Thrift Shop, an all-volunteer outreach ministry of Christ Episcopal Church from 1957 to 2020. Thanks to the generosity of Christ Episcopal Church and the volunteers of the Bargain Box, 24 substantial beds will be heading to our shelter in mid September! We have great news! Rainbow's Executive Director, Olusina Adebayo, MPA ("Olu" to us) has been selected to participate in the 35th cohort of Leadership Montgomery's CORE program. Leadership Montgomery, a Montgomery County-based community leadership organization, fosters cross-sector collaboration to address complex county issues through its programs and services. Beginning in September, class participants will attend monthly sessions to connect and prepare them to build thriving and inclusive communities in Montgomery County and beyond. Olu's adaptability, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, as well as his extraordinary dedication to improving the lives of those most marginalized in our communities, are true assets to Montgomery County. We are excited to see what wonderful things are in the future!
