This week, I was back in #Arizona again, this time for the Greater Phoenix Chamber Foundation’s workforce development summit. The content was so interesting and the attendees so engaging that I didn’t get very good photos. 🤦♀️ But here are some of the things I learned: Jill Buschbacher and her team are running a really innovative and highly successful workforce development program through the chamber that connects unemployed and underemployed people in Arizona to good jobs in IT and health care. It’s called Connect to Work AZ and is based on a Chicago model; In Carlos Contreras’ remarks I learned that the Arizona economy is thriving and job creation is outpacing other states, with close to 200,000 new jobs added this year; I learned from Scott Vanderpool about all the amazing investment Bank of America is making is the greater Phoenix area, including the free courses they offer to the community and the upskilling they do of their own workforce; I learned from Banner Health, Dignity Health and others in the health space about the ways companies are focusing on wellness and K-12 students; I heard from James Macdonald at J.P. Morgan about the bank’s commitment to fair chance hiring and their investment in the Valley of the Sun United Way collaborative; I learned from Shawn Marie Neidorf about the role of the Arizona Commerce Authority to attract new business and create new jobs, as well as the millions of dollars of capital investment made by new companies; I heard from everyone that Arizona’s economy is strong and there is a workforce shortage across all sectors. Finally, I was able to share the way Rasa helps employers #recruit and #retain good talent and provide opportunities for low income people with criminal records who want to contribute. Thanks to Jennifer Mellor and team for a terrific day! I left feeling energized about how the community in Arizona is coming together, as well as the opportunity for Rasa to help employers access the over 2 million people with criminal records who are too often overlooked or left behind. Look forward to working with you all to fill your open jobs, strengthen the economy, and build a better future for all!

The hardest part of building a team is saying goodbye to people you love, as they build on their experience, leave your organization, and move on to pursue new opportunities. This week, Rasa says farewell to our incredible Director of Client Services, Amy Daeschel, CSW, LASUDC. As she transitions, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for all she has done for our team and community. Amy's impact as a fierce advocate for social change and a dedicated champion for those in recovery has been an inspiration to all of us! Amy has been a driving force behind so many of our successes. She built out a lot of our initial processes, has organized and supported our legislative advocacy campaigns, and has continued to share her inspiring story with our community. She has helped draft thousands of expungement petitions and her passion for our clients and her desire to help people get the second chance they deserve is clear in all she does. We're beyond proud of Amy's achievements, including her most recent graduation this May with a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. We wish Amy the best of luck as she steps into her new role as the Director of Outreach and Clinical Integration at Odyssey House of Utah. Congratulations Amy! We love you, are grateful for your contributions, and know you will continue to make a difference and create positive change wherever you go!
