We don’t need to tell you that community means everything. When the Orion was developed and envisioned, community programming and events were integral to its operations. The premise was never to have it open for concerts ~30 times a year and then left dark for the remainder. tvg hospitality marketing director Olivia Christian sat down with us as our guest on the Makers of MidCity podcast to discuss this requisite and how it sets the Orion apart from other venues in the US. The building where Blue Oak BBQ recently opened is affectionately known as the NOLA Building, designed by the local architecture firm Matheny Goldmon Architecture + Interiors. Inspired by the New Orleans Warehouse District, the structure incorporates steel and painted cinder block, creating the illusion of a longstanding edifice. The iconic corner features a striking two-story all-brick facade, seamlessly blending modern design with a timeless aesthetic. Adorned with gas lanterns and hanging plants, the design emphasizes the charming French Quarter aesthetic. This corner will soon be home to an upscale restaurant offering a chef-driven menu and an innovative cocktail program, adding to Huntsville’s emerging culinary scene.

Jake’s Mews is taking shape at MidCity and set to uncover the transformative power of landscaped pathways in urban connectivity. This pedestrian-only green corridor not only connects urban blocks but also enhances community interaction and well-being. Strategically planted trees, modern seating, and well-designed walkways demonstrate how thoughtful landscape architecture can create sustainable, inviting spaces. As our team progresses with the installation of paver paths and eco-friendly lighting, we're reminded of the profound impact that well-planned green spaces have on fostering a connected and vibrant urban environment. Anticipated for completion in Fall 2024, Jake’s Mews is set to enhance connectivity and offer a unique experience for all dwellers and visitors of MidCity.

How do we confirm what the community wants and needs when approaching new development? To accurately determine the community's desires and necessities when planning new development projects, it is essential to engage in thorough consultation processes. A data-driven approach to development is crucial. In our latest Makers of MidCity podcast, RCP Co-Founder Remy Gross talks about this part of the development process - how we work with third-party consultants to collect and analyze relevant data to inform decision-making, ensuring that the development not only meets the community's current needs but also anticipates future demands. At RCP Companies, we believe in honoring the significance of Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and the enduring fight for freedom and equality. To celebrate and reflect on this important day, we give our staff the day off. Our hospitality team at MidCity has proudly hosted Juneteenth celebrations at The Camp for the past four years, making it a cornerstone event in our community's celebration of freedom and culture. Last year's event was a resounding success, with attendance exceeding 2,000 people. This year, we're expanding to a two-day event, starting Friday afternoon with a panel discussion and talent showcase, and culminating in an all-day festival on Saturday. If you’re in the North Alabama area, join us in celebrating the progress, culture, and unity that Juneteenth represents this coming weekend. https://lnkd.in/efHYW-Qr #Juneteenth #Community #RCPCompanies #MidCityHuntsville #CelebrateFreedom #HuntsvilleAL
