Recompose is a queer-led and operated funeral home with an intentional focus on how we care for LGBTQ2IA+ individuals and their loved ones. Please join us Thursday, June 27 for a night of community and discussion about how we respect, protect, and celebrate members of the queer community before and after death. Pride Month is a time to celebrate queer life, strength, love, and joy as well as focus on the lived experiences of LGBTQ2IA+ people everywhere. An important and less talked about part of our lived experience is death and how it relates to our identity. The queer community faces marginalization in both life and death but there are steps we can take to uphold our identities after we die. During the tour you’ll visit our ceremony spaces and a portion of the Greenhouse where human composting takes place. You’ll learn about our history, values, offerings, and steps you can take to protect your wishes and queer identity after you die. Learn more and sign up for the tour here: https://lnkd.in/gZgA5iKa

Very exciting to see human composting become legal and possible across the US. Here in the UK, the Law Commission are working on legislation to update the law around death and burial. It would be wonderful to see Recompose as an option in the UK in the future.

And just like that, we have a dozen states that have legalized human composting. We sure are on a roll in 2024 - that's 5 states this year alone! The 12 states that have legalized human composting over the last 5 years are 1. Washington - 2019 2. Colorado - 2021 3. Oregon - 2021 4. Vermont - 2022 5. California - 2022 6. New York - 2022 7. Nevada - 2023 8. Arizona - 2024 9. Maryland - 2024 10. Delaware - 2024 11. Minnesota - 2024 12. Maine - 2024 Many ask how to get involved to bring it to their state or country. We've compiled information on our website for you to reference. We'd love to create more in the future, but at this point these resources are what we have to support your efforts. Thank you for getting involved! https://lnkd.in/g-ZZ4Dky

Here’s some great news from our friends in Minnesota: Governor Tim Walz signed the bill to legalize human composting yesterday! Major kudos to the MN NOR Action group for their advocacy efforts and a big shout out to former MN Senator, Carolyn Laine, Susie Whitlock, and Erik Halaas for their work guiding the group’s efforts. While each state’s legislative process is different, for those interested in working on legalization in your own state, we thought the group’s activities may be useful for you: * Gathered names of supporters * Wrote first draft of legislative bill * Developed website & created handouts * Visited legislators & sent personalized letters to express support * Wrote articles for press * Worked with the state’s Funeral Directors Association to improve & strengthen the bill Find more on legislative advocacy - info, tips, legalization efforts, etc - on our website: https://lnkd.in/gHiEJYCZ

Global 50 Women in Sustainability 2022 | Digital Industry | Circular Economy | GTM Strategy

🌱What is your last impact on Earth?🌎 Death. Let's make it a sustainable one! Ever since I first heard about Recompose, I have wanted to take a tour. Turns out they do tours quite often but Women and Climate #Seattle posted a group adventure and I had to join. Choosing this process for yourself avoids 1 ton of carbon vs. other options! Love that they have incorporated elements from nature throughout the space, from the mural on the outside to the entry garden, how staff dress, photos from their nature regeneration partners, and an option to place biodegradable things (even biomass you bring such as produce from the garden) on the body as part of the service. I also appreciate that they have considered support for as many practices and traditions as possible in their ceremony rooms. The facility smells like alfalfa. It can take roughly 2mo for a body to process into compost. You can pick it up for a site of your choosing or donate to land partners. This is already a practice that the farming industry uses for their deceased animals. The main barrier to expansion is states creating legislation and then all the policies around the process, but there are at least 10 states that have laws passed! Washington is the only state with facilities at scale and Colorado is emerging. Very excited to follow their progress, make sure to check out their payment plan for your own death care! #Recompose #Death #FuneralService #SeattleBusiness #Compost
