Farm like the world depends on it.™

About us

Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) is a revolutionary new label for food, fiber, and botanical ingredients and products. ROC™ is based on three pillars that require farmers to use practices that ensure healthy soil, pasture-based animal welfare, and fairness for farmers and workers. Regenerative Organic Certified® is overseen by the 501(c)3 nonprofit Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA), a group of experts in farming, ranching, soil health, animal welfare, and farmer and worker fairness. Led by Rodale Institute and spearheaded by Dr. Bronner’s and Patagonia, other founding members of the Alliance include Compassion in World Farming, Fair World Project, White Oak Pastures, and the Textile Exchange. The ROA has been established to continuously review and update the certification guidelines. At the Regenerative Organic Alliance, we envision a world free of poisonous chemicals, factory farming, exploitation, soil degradation, habitat destruction, pollution, short-term thinking, corporate bullies, greenwashing, and fake food. Instead, we imagine a world in which farmers, brands, policymakers, educators, researchers, and individuals come together to create a healthy food system that respects land and animals, empowers people, and restores communities and ecosystems through regenerative organic farming. Farm like the world depends on it.™

Message from our Board of Directors: A New Chapter Ahead! We are proud to share that the impact of the Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) program has reached new heights, with a presence in 97 countries, spanning over 15 million acres and 450 different crop types. This growth has been made possible by the hard work and dedication of Elizabeth Whitlow, our Executive Director of the past six years, the ROA team, as well as the support of nearly 200 licensed brands bringing over 1,550 products to market. In just six years, the ROA has evolved into the organization we envisioned, setting the gold standard for regenerative agriculture under Elizabeth’s leadership. As announced to our community earlier today, Elizabeth has stepped aside her post as Executive Director to pave the way for new leadership to continue the legacy and grow ROA tenfold in response to the urgent climate crisis, transforming agriculture worldwide. As we embark on this search, we are excited to share that Elizabeth will continue serving ROA as a Strategic Advisor and Board member. To ensure a seamless transition, Elizabeth and the ROA team are welcoming and already working alongside, La Rhea Pepper, founding Board member of the ROA and former CEO of Textile Exchange, as the Interim CEO. To propel this ambitious mission, the ROA Board is leaning-in to further develop organizational resources, staff, and infrastructure to support this next phase of growth for the ROA. The Board is actively seeking a transformative CEO with a proven track record of scaling organizations with audacious goals. This new leader will drive fundraising efforts and steer the ROA towards a sustainable future. Please join us in sharing your appreciation for the strong foundation Elizabeth has laid over the last six years. If you know someone who aligns with our vision and could be a strong contender for the CEO role, we invite you to nominate them. Stay tuned for the official job announcement on LinkedIn, and join us in shaping the future of regenerative agriculture! #RegenerativeOrganic #CEOsearch #JobOpportunity #SustainableFuture  #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming

We are excited to announce the launch of the Regenerative Organic Learning Centers (ROLC), led by Benjamin Fahrer, as an ROA pilot program this year with five farms from distinct regions across the U.S. These farms represent a spectrum of how regenerative organic practices, outlined in the ROC ™ Framework, are implemented by our certified operations. Each one of these farms demonstrates its own unique and brilliant approach to being Regenerative Organic Certified ®. The ROLC participating farms have been selected in hopes of inspiring other farmers in their regions to adopt and adapt more regenerative organic methods, for the greater good of our soils, people, planet, and animals. Our goal is to continue strengthening and expanding our alliances within each subregion. These are dynamic field days in which we will be building networks of resources, sharing ideas, understanding technical applications of ROC™ practices and how to become certified. We will also be developing and exploring opportunities that exist between buyers, partners, farmers and organizations within each bioregion. Check out below which farms will be participating in the ROLC program and when their field day is happening- please note, while we would love to invite all our friends and advocates of regenerative organic agriculture, space is limited to farmers and buyers within the region. But there are still ways you can participate; we will be hosting a webinar prior to each field day that anyone can attend, and we will also be sharing highlights to our page from each farms field day!     🌾Northeast: Breathe Deep Farm, Hudson Valley, NY 🌾Midwest: A-Frame Farm, Madison, MN 🌾West Coast: The Ecology Center, San Juan Capistrano, CA 🌾Southeast: Heal The Planet Farm, Summertown, TN 🌾Southwest: Oatman Flats Ranch, Gila Bend, AZ   Stay tuned for virtual ROLC highlights to come!

Every inch of a regenerative organic farming operation is bursting with life, movement, and vitality. From the microscopic bacteria moving through the soil to the ruminant’s grazing above; each organism has a crucial role in creating a healthy and robust environment. The more life that the soil supports, and the more life that supports the soil, makes for a system full of abundance.  The majority of the organisms found in a regenerative organic operation are below the soil; with some million of different species and billions of organisms that make up one complex web of microscopic and macroscopic life that ultimately helps bring nutrient dense food to our plates.  This is why soil health is one of the key components of the Regenerative Organic Certified® framework, because if we feed the soils well, they feed us even better.

  • What a tremendous milestone for EILEEN FISHER, INC.! 100% of the cotton in our line is organic. We can do better. We’re working toward a higher standard—Regenerative Organic Certified® cotton that nurtures soil health and biodiversity. Not only is Regenerative Organic Certified® cotton completely traceable from the fields to the factory and grown without hazardous pesticides or herbicides, it goes a step further: It’s cultivated using farming methods that enrich the soil. Equally important, it supports the well-being of farmers and surrounding communities. For us, the program isn’t just another certification—it’s a holistic way of thinking that puts the health of people and planet first.
