Starting her career with us as a Customer Service Supervisor, Kyia Ashley became interested in recruiting when her former manager observed how she put a lot of thought and care into interviewing candidates for her team. Now, she excels as a recruiter, specializing in technicians for our Terminix and Rentokil North America brands in the Central Market. Dengue fever is a real threat in Puerto Rico. Luckily there are organizations working diligently to slow the spread. One such organization is the Puerto Rico Vector Control District (PRVCU), under the direction of Dr. Grayson Brown, longtime primary investigator of the University of Kentucky’s Public Health Entomology Laboratory. Brown and his team recently launched a study aimed at evaluating a multi-pronged approach to mosquito control. To help facilitate some of the fieldwork, Brown invited two former University of Kentucky Entomology graduate students (who also happen to be Rentokil Terminix experts), Dr. Sydney Crawley, Principal Vector Scientist, and Josiah Ritchey, Senior Vector Entomologist. Crawley and Ritchey brought in Rentokil Puerto Rico to partner with PRVCU on this effort. The current study will include treatment and evaluation of 200+ local homes and community living facilities to not only reduce mosquito populations but also to reduce dengue exposure over time. We were thrilled to host Girl Scout Troop 1109 at the Rentokil Terminix Innovation Center last week! These young explorers had a fantastic time learning about the fascinating world of bugs, guided by our expert entomologists. From discovering the critical roles insects play in our ecosystem to understanding the latest in pest control innovation, the girls were full of curiosity and eager questions. Special thanks to Cassie Krejci, Hunter Bergbower, and Irene Eubanks for making bugs fun and engaging, and to Troop 1109 for their enthusiasm and energy.
