🚀 Landmark #DACS project in #Greece!🌍 RepAir Carbon Capture is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking Direct Air Capture (DAC) and Storage partnership with #EnEarth, the Carbon Storage & Environmental Services subsidiary of Energean. This collaboration harnesses RepAir Carbon Capture’s zero-heat, energy-efficient, electrochemical technology, operating at just 600kWh per ton of CO2 removed. RepAir Carbon Capture will capture CO2 from the atmosphere which will be permanently stored in the #Prinos saline aquifer in Kavala, Greece. Operations will begin in early 2026, storing the first kiloton of carbon dioxide removed. When fully developed by 2028, EnEarth’s injection capacity in #Prinos will be able to service up to 3 million tons of CO2 a year, perfectly aligning with our growth strategy! 💪 By repurposing existing infrastructure, this partnership introduces a novel approach to environmental sustainability. The strategically located #Prinos CO2 Storage project will generate new green jobs and cultivate valuable expertise as part of a broader energy transition, bringing significant economic and environmental benefits to the community. 🌿💼 We couldn’t be more thrilled about this landmark partnership! Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative journey! 🌱 Link to the full press release: https://lnkd.in/eQHsDCwj Amir Shiner, Jean-Philippe Hiegel, Nicolas Rigas, Sotiris Chiotakis, Paddy Blewer, Katerina Sardi #Sustainability #CarbonCapture #DirectAirCapture #GreenJobs #EnergyTransition

Co-founder, Yehuda Borenstein shares insights in his latest post on how electrochemical carbon capture, like RepAir Carbon Capture's can adjust its rate based on energy availability and how negative energy prices allow us to capture more carbon at a lower cost, enhancing efficiency. Unlocking a 20% Cost Reduction in Electrochemical Carbon Capture with Negative Energy Prices from Renewables—No Expensive Batteries Needed! ⚡ In the recent IEA report, several statements highlighted how complicated and challenging the energy transition is. I want to share an emerging issue that could be an exciting opportunity for electrochemical carbon removal—the rising frequency of negative electricity prices. Why Are We Seeing Negative Prices? Solar and wind energy are intermittent, producing power only when the sun shines or the wind blows. This can lead to electricity generation exceeding demand, particularly during peak production times. When this happens, the grid becomes oversupplied, causing prices to drop—sometimes even turning negative. In such cases, electricity producers may have to pay others to take their excess power, as the costs of shutting down and restarting plants or curtailing renewable production can be higher. Why Are Negative Prices Increasing? The rapid growth of renewable energy is driving more frequent negative prices. According to the IEA, solar PV and wind power are expected to meet nearly 75% of the increase in global electricity demand by 2025. As renewables become a more significant part of the energy mix, their intermittent nature leads to more instances of oversupply, resulting in more frequent negative prices. How can electrochemical carbon capture benefit from negative energy prices? We can adjust the capture rate by changing the operating conditions in electrochemical carbon capture, whether from the air or a point source. For instance, supplying 600 kW to a capture unit can capture 1 ton of CO2 per hour. However, providing 1 MW to the same unit increases the capture rate to 1.4 tons per hour. This means we can capture 40% more carbon using the same hardware (though with reduced efficiency). If energy prices are negative, we can capture more carbon and benefit from those negative prices, making the process more cost-effective. Why is it better than adding storage? It eliminates the need for additional hardware and allows for greater flexibility in adapting to seasonal, annual, or hourly fluctuations in energy availability. RepAir Carbon Capture is the best carbon capture technology in terms of energy efficiency and cost 😁—though I might be a bit biased! https://lnkd.in/e-sAdeiC

From a carbon perspective, you can think of Direct Air Capture (DAC) as our version of technical trees. Just like reforestation, DAC has the potential to be incredibly effective in removing CO₂ from the atmosphere. Be sure to read all about it Yehuda Borenstein's latest post!

Direct Air Captures and Trees: A Green Alliance 🌲 🎄 🌳   We all love trees!!! ❤️   Trees are vital to our lives and the environment. Their lush green foliage connects us deeply with nature and provides essential resources like food, shelter, and industrial materials. Trees also play a critical role in storing carbon, helping to regulate and balance the carbon cycle.   That is why we all love the idea and actions of planting new trees to store more carbon. Here is one amazing initiative, 1 trillion Trees - https://trilliontrees.org/ However, even after realizing the importance of trees in our atmosphere, according to the World Resources Institute, deforestation in 2023 was 2% higher than the 2018-2020 baseline. 😱 Here is how innovation can ally with nature to mitigate climate change.   Direct Air Capture (DAC) - a groundbreaking technology that extracts CO2 directly from the air and securely stores it underground.   From a carbon perspective, Direct Air Capture is as effective as Reforestation. Just as we cherish and protect our forests, we should also support DAC as a crucial tool in the fight against climate change.   Direct Air Capture (DAC) = Reforestation
