“Period Pills” ✨ Period pills offer an additional option to manage the uncertainty of a missed period. However, period pills are neither contraception nor abortion, because a period can be missed for many reasons other than pregnancy. Therefore, they occupy a legal gray area. 📖 Read more in our newest Insights article by Rachel Chisausky, DO! ➡️ Swipe right for a sneak peek. This article outlines what we know about period pills and how organizations like the National Working Group on Period Pills in the U.S. are working to increase access to these pills. --- Insights is our monthly e-newsletter offering primary care clinicians evidence-based education on abortion and early pregnancy loss care (miscarriage). 📨 Get our Insights straight to your inbox! "Pushing back against the flood of harmful content requires establishing trusted sources of information and counteracting widespread misinformation and disinformation with supportive, positive, resources that are free of judgment. Experts can use these same platforms to highlight accurate information about birth control. We can point people toward reliable, accurate resources like the Reproductive Health Access Project’s contraceptive options chart or zine and Bedsider’s interactive website. We need to rebuild trust. With more attacks on contraception and contraceptive access likely on the way, we must urgently, proactively respond so young people will be less exposed and susceptible to propaganda aimed at peeling back reproductive autonomy. People deserve a full range of honest, accurate information to truly make an informed decision about the contraceptive approach that works best for their body and lives." - Mai Fleming, Christine Dehlendorf and April J. >> That’s a RHAP: Legislative Advocacy Roundtables! (For Clinician-Advocates) We’re so proud of Athena Guice, our Senior Program Coordinator, for hosting two incredible events last week! Our Legislative Roundtables convened 75+ clinician advocates from across the U.S., where we shared strategies for driving policy change and improving access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare services while centering reproductive justice. At RHAP, our goal is to equip clinicians with the most relevant and valuable information and skills to protect access to reproductive health care. With 1 in 8 voters saying abortion is most important to their vote in the 2024 election, our team recognizes that protecting reproductive rights now requires a deeper understanding of legislative and legal challenges. That’s why we partnered with the National Institute for Reproductive Health/NIRH Action Fund, Physicians for Reproductive Health, and Oleaga Law, LLC to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among diverse shareholders committed to reproductive health and justice. Clinicians, nurse midwives, activists, attorneys and more tuned in from Maine to California to discuss… ➡️ Legislative priorities, such as protecting reproductive rights and autonomy ➡️ The many forms of advocacy, from legislative to administrative to institutional ➡️ The critical role that local communities play in advocacy post-Dobbs ➡️ Strategies for addressing current policy concerns …and more! It was incredibly empowering to bring together diverse perspectives in this conversation of legislative advocacy. Thank you so much to Adrienne Ramcharan, MPH from Physicians for Reproductive Health, Janene Oleaga from Oleaga Law, LLC, and Arpita Appannagari, MPH from the National Institute for Reproductive Health/NIRH Action Fund for sharing your expertise regarding legislative advocacy amongst clinicians and community. And if you missed it, don’t worry! Whether you are a Clinician-Advocate, Clinician, or concerned Community Advocate, here are some key steps you can take TODAY to promote reproductive justice in your work: 📖 Stay informed on upcoming policy shifts by connecting with those fighting for Reproductive Equity 🩺 Share your expertise with policymakers and shareholders 🤝 Mobilize community support & center BIPOC voices, perspectives, and concerns 🛠️ Build and pool resources with coalitions 📞 Contact your executives to advocate for policy change 💼 Provide legal support or subject-matter expertise with coalitions 📱 Amplify your advocacy on social media How can you as a clinician center reproductive justice in your day to day work? 🤔 #LegislativeAdvocacy #AbortionLegislation #ReproductiveRights #PoliticalAction #Advocacy ACLU, Center for Reproductive Rights, Advocates for Youth
