If you could create any object, what would you make? 🧞♂️ ✨ That's a real question for Associate Professor Thomas Madura and his students. Instead of traditional class textbooks, Madura's students purchase 3D printers, which they assemble and use for assignments. 🧠 Students have 3D printed everything from fidget spinners and chainmail to a new apparatus for a campus research lab. Design and 3D printing skills have wide-ranging applications, from industrial manufacturing to scientific research. "If you're trying to do something that's really new or innovative or has a special application," Madura says, "3D printing is the way to go.” Since we can’t print more Maduras, we’d definitely like to print more 3D printers! 🪄 ⤵ 🌐 https://lnkd.in/djHY8T8u #Innovation #HigherEducation #3DPrinting #Research #SJSU — SJSU College of Science

✨🏛️ Honored to have participated in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) panel discussing the critical need to expand cultural and institutional support for public service in tech. It was a vital opportunity to share in the discussion about the vision of a fully developed field of public interest technology, which ranks atop the list of important steps we’re taking at #SJSU. We are working together to be responsive to the seismic changes sparked by AI and the convergence of technologies. We are at the Epicenter of the Future here in #SiliconValley and leading initiatives with the City of San José to co-create our future for industry and our community at large. We remain focused on workforce reskilling and educational opportunities necessary for all people to thrive in the future! Thanks Andreen Soley and Ford Foundation! Our campus is well-prepared to focus on ethical use and embracing AI for Social and Civic Good! 🌟 SJSU Alum Investigator Spotlight: Caitlin Pambid 🌟 San Jose State University alum Caitlin Pambid is revolutionizing public perspectives by reinventing museums as we know them. → In her compelling work, "A Confrontational Retrospective: 1904 World's Fair Faux Filipino Villages," Caitlin challenges perceptions by juxtaposing familiar objects with objects exoticized by curators of the past. → Her project, "Death to the Museum (As We Know It)," which earned 🥇FIRST place in Undergraduate Humanities and Letters at the 2024 CSU Student Research Competition, envisions the end of museums as top-down authorities on cultural memory. Instead, Caitlin foresees their rebirth as inclusive spaces. Guided by mentor #SJSU Lecturer Erik Johnson, Caitlin's dedication to change through innovative techniques is truly transforming museums — and us. She is a Humanities Honors alum and currently serves as Assistant Curator at Chopsticks Alley Art. Caitlin, we can't wait to see what you do next! 👀 🏆 ✨ #MuseumLife #Inclusivity #Creativity #ChangeYourMind
